@anshublog @bhalligan @SnowflakeDB I agree; it is GENERALLY true. There are, of course, counterexamples to every truism. But Founders must be able to do a bunch of different things at least reasonably well to get the thing to the point where it can attract high value experts. That's why founding companies is hard.

@bhalligan The opposite is equally true. Look at @SnowflakeDB. Built by specialists, later scaled by generalists. Depends on what kind of startup you are building. Everything in startup is true, and false. Nuance!

@bhalligan In the Bay Area, successful entrepreneurs pay it forward. In Boston, they turn into asset managers.

Top 10 tech co's in Bay Area v Boston. Why do folks think this happened when they were neck and neck a few decades ago? I have some theories, but want yours.

Founders, when someone asks you what your revenue as, if the answer does not start with a number it is a very bad sign.

Absolutely true. I've said for many years that if you're not failing sometimes, you're not innovating. The key is to actively and vigilantly seek the signs of failure, and act on them immediately.
Harry Stebbings@HarryStebbings

I have invested in 170 companies. The ones that win, have the fastest feedback loops. They try lots, they fail fast, they learn faster. The ones that lose, have long feedback loops. It takes months to know if something worked. The faster you fail, the quicker you learn.

99% of companies that want to raise their Series A so they “can really spend on marketing”… Simply have not found true product market fit.

I've been selected to be Beta Host for dineoutwith.us. 🍽🥂 And it's at a chill restaurant that I've been to before. The caveat: gotta get a guest list together and host the dinner by mid-Feb. New and old friends, I might be in your inbox 😋

Founders, share a sentence or two about your startup and your stage. Then me and the startup/investor Twittersphere will recommend investors that might be a good fit for you.

@danhightower hello.dineoutwith.us is an emerging platform that translates the classic dinner party experience into restaurants. We provide our partner restaurants with a platform for managing parties of 6-20, and consumers with a pre-packaged way to enjoy the hosting experience.

@bhalligan Shouldn't there be a dancing bear or a stealie somewhere in that progression? 🤔

@dhmeyer Hope you'll take a look at hello.dineoutwith.us/restaurantpart…. We think we can have a major impact helping the industry come out of COVID by making it super easy for people to reconnect over culinary adventures at great restaurants. We'd love to have a chat!

@bhalligan I was recently told by a Gen Z-er that IQ and EQ are illegitimate measures because they're based on white, CIS social constructs which are invalid when applied to other cultures and social classes. It was an...interesting...conversation.

I just took a reference call from vc on an ex-HubSpotter. I was asked an interesting question that I might borrow. How would you rate ____ on EQ, IQ, and Grit?
