As we study the historical profile of the Niger Delta, we understand that the core of the average Niger Delta community is deeply rooted in sustainable practices. We look back at what once was, understand what has changed, and find ways to merge that wisdom with future goals

Sand mining is quietly changing the river. It makes the river wider and deeper, weakens the soil, and causes erosion. Riverbanks erode, farms are lost and flooding becomes severe as the land slowly loses its strength. We need to talk more about mining and responsible production.

Last year, the NNPC OML II wellhead burst and crude oil flooded the land, farms, and water of Kpean community. Since August 2025, after the joint inspection, the site has been abandoned. Oil still sits there. Lives are at risk. #NigerDelta #justice @nnpclimited @General_Somto
