Subrata Gupta was singled out by ECI from thousands of retd IAS officers to be appointed as the "Sole Special Roll Observer to oversee the SIR of electoral rolls for Bengal despite being an officer of the West Bengal cadre. So he must be exceptionally brilliant and unbiased. How does ECI choose him though? Did they ask DOPT or ?? Dept of Personnel &Training fits selected retd officers in the various govt boards and also nudges the big corporates too, at the behest of ruling netas, to put chosen ones on their boards ie pvt banks, jewellery manufacturers to other major businesses. Now Gupta ji lets presume, was chosen for his unbiased and objective approach. 27 lacs could not vote but chalo it was fated. But after the elections, this impartial officer has joined CM Bengal as his special advisor. Is there anything odd? peculiar? Nothing is of consequence. Very few will even react to this as if its on par. We are 90 years behind

The new govt of Bengal is an illegitimate govt. It was not elected but rather “selected” by Modi-Tadipar who rigged the elections using their poodle Gyanesh Kumar & the ECI. This is a govt that doesn’t enjoy the people’s mandate. Narratives spun by Noida media & BJP don’t reflect the will of the people. There’s only 2 possibilities now: we either accept that India has ceased to be a democracy where free & fair elections are impossible. Or we reclaim our democracy from compromised institutions & assert that nothing is greater than the will of the people. The litmus test is 2029. Either we lose our democracy or we win back our country.

My friends from Bengal have always claimed they did not know communalism or casteism. Both were obviously delusional statements but they did live in an era where Hindu vs Muslim was not played up by parties that ruled and the Left saw the world through prism of class and not caste. Yet Bengal was the first state to be partitioned in British India and a subconscious communalism was always there though many Bhadralok would be horrified when told so. Caste was ignored because those that dominated the discourse were all from the upper castes unlike what happened first in south and Tamil Nadu in particular with Dravida movement, and then in Gangetic belt with Mandal. In this election BJP worked amongst Tribals and Dalits because they know how to use community units; and they also got support from the gentiles looking for change. A new era begins in Bengal when the certainties of what they thought they were will be turned upside down. But may the beautiful things of the past also endure. And I do not ignore the voter exclusion curated through SIR as being a serious constitutional issue but the mind can also hold two thoughts at one time. If I say one thing it does not mean the other is not true.

As the new Chief Minister of Bengal takes oath, I expect that he upholds the oath itself. He & his government must serve every individual of Bengal across all casts, religion & language who voted for him and those who didn’t. We have fought an extremely difficult election where nearly 30 lakh genuine voters were allegedly disenfranchised from the electoral rolls. Throughout this entire process, we witnessed what we believe was deeply partisan conduct by several government agencies as well as the Election Commission of India. Democratic institutions that are meant to function impartially appeared compromised, raising serious concerns about the fairness, credibility and transparency of the electoral process in West Bengal. From the counting process to allegations surrounding the handling and movement of EVMs, Mismatch of Control Units, several disturbing incidents have left millions of people questioning whether the true mandate of the people has been respected. I have already demanded the release of CCTV FOOTAGE FROM THE COUNTING CENTRES and a transparent counting of VVPAT slips so that the truth can come before the people and every doubt can be addressed openly and honestly. Democracy can only survive when electoral institutions inspire trust and confidence among citizens. Unfortunately, what we have witnessed has deeply shaken that trust. At the same time, reports of post-poll violence, attacks on party offices, intimidation of our party workers and threats against supporters are deeply alarming and unacceptable in a democratic society. Many dedicated Trinamool workers and supporters who fought tirelessly on the ground have allegedly faced targeted attacks and have been forced to flee their homes out of fear and insecurity. No political worker in a democracy should ever have to choose between their safety and their political beliefs. Keeping the democratic traditions of this great nation above everything else, my colleagues and I in the Trinamool Congress will continue to stand firmly with the people of West Bengal and with every Trinamool worker who fought tooth and nail against what we believe was a compromised electoral machinery. We will continue to be a strong, vocal and uncompromising opposition both in Delhi and WB. Under the guidance and leadership of Mamata Banerjee, our fight for democracy, constitutional values and the rights and dignity of the people will continue without fear and without compromise. I urge every Trinamool supporter and worker to stay strong and united during this difficult time. Is this how you plan to drive “Bhoi” out? By setting Bengal on fire? What unfolded in Khejuri’s Nichkasba GP, Hijli Sharif is nothing short of barbaric. Over 60 shops were torched by BJP-backed miscreants, destroying the livelihoods of innocent people overnight. Hindu-owned shops, Muslim-owned shops, it made no difference. This was not an attack on any one community; it was a calculated assault on Bengal’s social harmony, democratic fabric and the ordinary citizens who simply want to live in peace. This is the true face of BJP’s politics: hatred, intimidation and destruction. Bengal will never surrender to such violence.
