Michigan State officials, under the leadership of @GovWhitmer, are putting dead people back on the voter rolls after their removal, and sending out ballots to non-existent voters, according to Republican State Representative Rachelle Smit. Smit, a former township clerk with firsthand experience in election administration, made her claims during legislative hearings, saying there is a systemic failure under @MichiganDem leadership. Smit said she personally removed a dead voter from the rolls in her township, only to discover the name had been added back later. "I took off a dead voter in my township and guess what? That dead voter was put back on," Smit said, adding that local clerks are battling what she calls "inadequate oversight from the Secretary of State's office." (@MichSoS) Smit also talked about a family member who died almost 20 years ago, and was removed from the voter rolls. She revealed that her dead family member was added back to the voter rolls in 2020, and was mailed voter application ballots without authorization. "There was a family member who at one point was registered at my in-laws' home, and that family member had died nearly 20 years prior. They were put on the rolls in 2020. They were mailed voter application ballots without the authorization" She said this is an example of policies under Democrat Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson (@JocelynBenson) allowing for these types of "errors" opening the door for fraud by allowing ballots to reach addresses where dead voters once lived. While Benson's office insists the system is secure and compliant with federal law, @MIGOP Republicans like Smit say that the reinstatements of dead voters … whether through clerical errors, outdated data, or insufficient purging … create risks that Democrats have failed to address aggressively. 🔷️Michigan's Qualified Voter File (QVF) currently lists about 8.4 million registered voters, compared to 7.9 million voting-age residents. 🔷️A 2024 analysis identified dozens of long-deceased Detroit residents still on the rolls, with 63% of challenged names confirmed dead.
