Because I’m an artist, I get the “it was the smells and bells, right?” All of the time. The smells and the bells were what I was previously avoiding because I thought of them as ritualistic. And rituals were bad 🤣 In a way, they were keeping me out. Long story short, I was already convinced of Orthodoxy before I was conmfortable with smells and bells. So it was the opposite case for me. Rational first. Experiential second. But now, mystical.

A lot of young men are becoming Roman Catholic or Orthodox for vibes and the aesthetic. I’ll be the first to admit that a lot of this due to the failures of modern evangelicalism. BUT those converting for the vibes & the aesthetic will burn out. You must LOVE CHRIST. Christ is King. He’s not an aesthetic. If you treat him like one you’re headed for burnout, & possibly an eternity in hell. If we are truly going to make America Christian again we need godly men, with transformed hearts, who love God, love his Word, and seek to obey him in ALL THINGS.
