Before I say what I need to say, let me tell you a little story about my lecturer and friend a man who was almost 50 and not yet married. I once asked him why. He smiled and told me he had his life planned out. He said, “At 50, I’ll get married and start having kids.
Àgbà John Doe@jon_d_doe

Dear young men, Please, try to marry early. Start small, but not empty. A 60 year old man married at 38. His wife is 54. They have 5 children, and the oldest is 21, & not yet a graduate. He walked away from his marriage due to frustration, lack of job, even when he's qualified. His wife and children (asides the first child), have turned their backs on him. Before he walked away, he wrote a suicide note. He stiii tries to provide for them, but he's tired. The 3rd child just got admission to study medicine and surgery. There is no money, & he's now very suicidal because his responsibilities are weighing him down. With a 54 year old estranged wife, & him being 60, you can tell that they're both aging and becoming weaker. Clearly, he still has at least 10 years to train all his 5 children. Meaning, he would still be spending heavily even at 70. When he should be a grandfather and resting. And his wife, a grandmother, and taking care of him. I keep telling you all these, because you're always thinking that you want to make enough money before you marry. You fail to see that age is a major factor in decision making towards marriage. The average retirement age for a man is 60. After 60, you'll become tired and you may not have enough financial resources to shoulder your responsibilities. The amount of children that you and your wife have decided to have, is also a major factor. If you married late, please know that raising kids is a very expensive venture. That you have money to feed them now that they're still toddlers, doesn't mean the money will keep coming. And very few men will be rich or have good money after 50. Marrying early, when you're still very productive, is a wise decision. Making sure that you do not have many children when you marry late, is a wise decision. The 60 year old man is tired. And the pressure and lack of respect from his estranged wife, and children have made it worse. Do not say that you'll be an exception. And I know that many of you experienced this while growing up under your parents. Life became more difficult for your father when you were in secondary school, & going to the university was almost hopeless. But for God who showed you mercy. Everything requires planning. I have two children with my wife, and I can afford to have more if I want. However, I know that money may not always be there. And I'm no longer a young man. And I do not intend to make my kids suffer for my decisions. I hope you understand me. End.

That way, when I’m old, my children will still be around to take care of me. Unlike most people who marry early and end up with grown children who have left home by the time they’re old.” He also told me he had invested so much in his future and his kids that even after he’s gone

Uber, Bolt, InDrive in Nigeria: A Lesson You Shouldn’t Miss. Uber was the first to touch down in Nigeria. They were doing well... until Bolt caught wind of the opportunity. Bolt studied the market closely. They watched what Uber was doing, and more importantly, what Uber wasn’t doing. Then they made their move. But before we get to Bolt’s play, let’s look at Uber’s game. Uber had two customers to satisfy: the passengers and the drivers. But maybe without knowing, they started treating passengers as the real customers, and drivers as just the workforce. In a way, they weren’t wrong. But they missed something critical. Drivers began to complain about the commission cuts, about how little attention they were getting. And still... Uber kept their standards high. Clean cars, professional drivers, and screened vehicles with specific requirements. It worked. Back then, driving Uber was a status thing. If you were behind the wheel, you were somebody. Everything ran smoothly. Then Bolt entered. They didn’t sneak in quietly. They showed up with a loudspeaker, offering lower cuts for drivers than Uber. Drivers checked, downloaded both apps, and compared earnings. Your guess? Bolt was treating them better. Gradually, the drivers shifted. Bolt, who came to share the market, ended up owning most of it. But the game wasn’t over. Then boom! InDrive. They looked at Bolt and Uber... and undercut them both. Even better, they gave passengers and drivers a chance to negotiate, turning rides into a real marketplace. Now it got messy. At one point, you’d open Bolt… and there’d be no drivers. Why? They were busy on InDrive. Suddenly, all three companies weren’t fighting for passengers anymore. They were fighting for drivers. And in that fight? They all lost. Today, a typical Bolt, Uber, or InDrive ride feels no different from a regular roadside taxi. Except that you don't have someone choking you from the sides of the seats. Don’t expect a working AC. Don’t wear white unless you want it stained. The ultimate... Comfort... Gone. And here’s the it: None of these companies are doing anything today that truly resonates with passengers, nor the drivers. Drivers show up in tattered and dirty clothes, looking unkempt. People don’t open the app because they love the service anymore. They open it because they have somewhere to go. It’s no longer which service do I enjoy... It’s simply who’s closest to me. That’s what a messy competition can do. It lowers the standard for everyone. Now imagine if Uber had taken a different path. As Bolt dropped driver percentages, Uber could’ve gone up... Upped their standards, tightened vehicle requirements, introduced quarterly inspections. Kept only newer, cleaner cars. Yes, maybe at a slightly higher price, but for a market segment that values comfort, that could’ve been a golden opportunity. Remember: This isn’t a Western market. It’s different here. In Nigeria, many still see ride-hailing as a luxury or only a necessity when in a rush. But there’s also a large group: car owners who don’t always want to drive. The elite, the rich, and corporate businesses who rely on these services for transport. Imagine if one company had held that premium standard. Today, they’d dominate that space. And now... if you’ve been paying attention, you’ve already learned a few things along the way. But I’ll break them down clearly, one by one: Competing on price alone is a race to the bottom. Bolt dropped prices, InDrive dropped them further. Now nobody wins (they might be making profits, but value is gone). Compete on value, not just cost. Standards set you apart, especially in a crowded market. If Uber had doubled down on car quality and experience, they could’ve owned the premium lane. There’s always a segment willing to pay for better. React fast, but also think forward. When new players enter, don’t just copy, strategize. Anticipate where the market is going, while considering your demographics. Stay one move ahead. In whatever, show your workforce they are your strength. Any speculation about the future of this business space in Nigeria? Drop your thoughts 👇

"Being a man is a thankless job." No, it is not. I need you men to accept your thanks, and in some cases, demand it. Thanklessness does not exist on a vacuum. There has to be a consistent history of thanklessness from the people you're responsible for, for you to arrive at the claim that "being a man is a thankless job." But I have news for you. Thanklessness is intentional. If your woman and/or kids are thankless towards your sacrifices, it is because they chose to be thankless. If you're in a relationship where your partner is thankless, fling them away. If you're already married amd you're used to thanklessness, demand it. If the society is thankless for what you do, blow your trumpet and get your thanks. Stop sacrificing yourself for thanklessness. It is not a flex. Be with women who appreciate you and are grateful for everything you do. Women who teach the kids to appreciate their father and his place in the home. No let anybody nobody you. . . . Above all, try to live long. Take care of yourself very well as you're taking care of your family. Dead that nonsense mentality that "to know if a man has money, look at his wife and children." We are looking at you, nigga. Stop dying young and leaving kids for women to raise alone.

Today, Nigerian banks will begin to charge 6naira per sms to all their customers. If you use a nigerian bank, Go on your app, or go to the bank; And disable all the sms alerts. Ask to get emails instead. As far as I’m aware, email alerts are free. Do not give your hard/earned money to these thieves that will use it to throw a white party at the end of the year that you can’t even attend.

One of the major problems Nigeria faces to this day is the lack of proper structuring. While many are quick to point fingers at the government, it’s clear that those same critics are often unwilling to build the foundational systems needed in various sectors. Take, for example, music, movies, skit makers, and content creators. The same people we look up to are capitalizing on opportunities we fail to tap into. If comedians like Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock, Jerry Seinfeld, Kevin Hart, Ali Wong, and Hannah Gadsby can secure deals with Netflix, showcasing how the platform can turn comedians into household names, why can’t Nigeria do the same? The focus here is mostly on Instagram and YouTube, which limits what creators can achieve, especially if they lack the right team or resources to secure such deals.#mixofusng

It’s ironic: the icons Nigeria once looked up to now look to the younger generation for skit comedy. You can’t mention Ali Baba without Basketmouth and AY, who turned comedy into a real business, a concept I Go Dye eventually grasped, then left the scene. Dr. Caze, as “Baba Ade,” shifted Nigerian comedy forever. Yet, they all lack the one thing Mark Angel mastered. Let me break down….#mixofusng
