@dilanesper Wrongdoing by male homosexuals is systematically understated. One of the techniques is simply declining to mention the issue. Any fair accounting of the life of Spade Cooley, one with more than a dozen Tweets, would include it.

@dj5law we actually do not know that. we know his psychiatrists wanted him to say he was gay at trial as a defense, but that doesn't mean it is true.

One more spicy late night take: if you want a Rosetta Stone of how famous defendants manage to get public sympathy despite being guilty as sin, it's the case of Spade Cooley. Cooley is obscure now but was a massive TV and music star in the 1940's and 1950's.

@dilanesper He was almost certainly a homosexual. Why'd you leave that out?

Human beings develop parasocial relationships with famous people and WANT them to be innocent, and will look past enormous evidence of their guilt. Famous people get the benefit of doubts mere normies, let alone the poor, are never given.

Imagine going to work every day here. I don't know about you but I wouldn't need to set my alarm clock. I've attempted to get into the GM Technical Center for a tour and looky-loo, only to get the bum's rush from the gate guards. Very hush hush place with high security. In case anybody from General Motors reads this, could I prevail upon you to take pity on this old car & architecture nut and request a guest pass on my behalf? I will be in Detroit later this year, and honestly I'm fairly harmless.

Today's Dave's Car ID Service pays homage to the General Motors Technical Center in Warren Michigan, which held its grand opening May 16, 1956. The absolute pinnacle of postwar Detroit style, confidence, and power, and a fitting showcase for a 1956 Cadillac Coupe de Ville.

@RogueWPA This stuff pushes aside true, interesting stories. There was a family of Japanese people who lived down the (country) road from my grandfather. Their father came to Buffalo for the 1901 Pan-American Expo (as an acrobat), married a local girl and their kids went around the world

@RogueWPA I found another where my great-gf was from, Brocton, NY, which hosted a crazy utopian community for a while. In the 1870 census, they had two guys from Japan living there who each only had one name and were listed as black. They eventually moved to California.

@RogueWPA as a dance troupe. They settled in Hamburg, opened a chicken bbq catering place and a dance school. They stuck around until the early 70s and were beloved by the people. There was a huge article in the paper when the last one retired to Florida.

I follow a Harvard professor who conducts a poll every semester where two of the questions are “how many of your peers do you think are sexually active” and “are you sexually active”. This last semester the students said they thought 80% of them were sexually active but according

I don’t think American yellow is the best mustard but I do think it is underrated. It has a “this is trash” reputation but I love the tang. I like to do multi-mustard applications: yellow, brown, and Dijon!

@Boss351Pilot It seems that a 62 or 65 Biscayne weighed about 3500, same as a 65 GTO. But by 65, the heaviest full-size chevy was 4300 lb. The heaviest full size in 62 was 3800 lb.

Seems like a good time to retweet this because I think it'll become more and more relevant as time goes on. The entire '60s market will collapse at some point, but in terms of continuing interest the 1st and 2nd halves of the decade will continue to separate.
Boss351Pilot@Boss351Pilot

1)We think of the 60s as "The Musclecar Era", but it's really made up of two distict halves. The second half is typified by package supercars like the GTO and Road Runner. The first half was dominated by max-performance engines in standard passenger cars...

@dpinsen @ByrneHobart In fact, this sort of "Orientalism of the Kitchen", valorizing all these third-world cuisines, seems to be a WASP thing in and of itself. I mean, how many curry houses are there in England? Third-worlders only seem to be interested in themselves.

@ByrneHobart Is this even true? Julia Child was a WASP, and accomplished more for gastronomy than most of the third world combined.

There's a meme about how "in my culture, we care about food" being common to every culture. And the reason is that the world was briefly conquered by the WASPs, (~1920-1963—Kennedy being a Catholic WASP), a culture that accomplished great things everywhere but the kitchen.
