An illuminating exchange about the approach to performance in Godot (slightly paraphrased) between Sam Pruden (who wrote the post "Godot is not the new Unity - The anatomy of a Godot API call" and Godot creator and Technical Lead Juan Linietsky. Source: gist.github.com/reduz/cb05fe96

But I would love to give it a try once it got real attractions from the big studios too, until then, I doubt a lot of time is spent in annoying performance optimizations, stability, etc but adding new fanzy features (I would do the same)

#GodotEngine basically what I feared: reddit.com/r/gamedev/comm… As (non hobbyist) game developer you have to work 100% on your game, meta, backend... Even if a Engine looks pretty or is open source, it MUST perform well and the device and get its bugs fixed (open source or not)

Open source is nice for engine developers itself or if you really have to fix a critical bug quickly, but actually this is what is expected from the engine developers, sounds wild, but this is how it is. Game developers have to work on the game, not on the engine

@Structed Example scene are usually made to highlight the "good" parts of a product/engine, I would much more be interested in real world experiences :)

@djinnworks You can try some of the example scenes (official or unofficial) to determine yourself. Also: the Godot Editor runs in 3D on mobiles. So you can also check & build those example scenes on your mobile, if the Editor is not an example enough!

As everybody appears to be happy with #godot #madewithgodot I read posts almost only about whats possible with the editor, but has someone real experience with performance, stability, backward compatibility on mobiles? Not for hyper-casual games but for full featured 3D games

Unity has gone a very long road to reach the (quite good) runtime stability and performance on mobiles they have now, I wonder how the other engines compare to this

Also quality/stability of plugins like in app purchasing, ad networks, play asset delivery, etc

A performance comparison would be nice for a full featured 3D scene with lighting, physics, heavy gamelogic code, etc

#UnityEngine #Unity #Unity3d To the people in charge of Unity, whoever came up with this ridiculous runtime fee, do you have any idea how the mobile market works? Obviously not, go back to the drawing board! Whatever your motivations, you have failed miserably!

Stickman Trick Soccer, about to be available later today for Android and iOS! Let’s kick the ball into the goal! What sounds easy will be quite challenging because in Stickman Trick Soccer you have to find and play the best possible path to the goal! #djinnworks #stickman
