Safe to say that the higher profile an artist is, the more likely they are to have other gigs on other nights - and often needing flight to get to/from.

The traffic light change for most of NZ at midnight on 30th Dec means many of the remaining NYE festivals are now being swamped with ticket discount demands because they mostly start on the 30th. Why couldn't it have been midnight on the 29th? Seems arbitrary. #covid19nz

@hypeasgus @anth_ny_ We have different experiences of course but I've asked dozens of djs in recent weeks about it. The mid size gigs go out of their way to pay as many as possible. The larger ones more likely to just offer contra. I'm with you on the scheme aims, but think they've missed the mark.

@EricCrampton @publicaddress @Offsetting @dbseymour @duncangreive @nzmusicmonth If that was the case, cutting down in admin, then that's not a reasonable excuse at all. The mid size events are the ones at most risk of being cancelled, with the most downstream impact too in artists, suppliers etc.

I can imagine things that could have led to wanting to only deal with a small number of large, high-cost events that might otherwise be cancelled. The administrative burden of dealing with lots of small events could be impracticable?

Looks like the alcohol laws are back in the mix now that a few of the orgs which lost badly in the Auckland Local Alcohol Policy appeals case think everyone has forgotten about it. They want to make their lobbying stick this time. 🤔 #alcoholnz
