True story. I know a millennial couple who we were casual friends with. They own a 1920’s house full of beautiful dark oak trim work - excellent condition. And she painted it white. I don’t speak with them anymore because of this (and other reasons). I know that sounds ridiculous but it’s indicative of other major mental issues. Disregard for the wood grain, the carpenter, the past generations that lived in the home and maintained the wood, the future generations that will live in the house once you’re gone. It’s a red line for me.

@ZachMasker A lot of rye runs 10 ton, maybe pushing 15 for an outstanding crop. Oats would be a little less, unless you are growing one of the forage oat varieties.

How many ton to the acre do oats make when you chop them in Iowa. Hill farm. I know nothing about oats but looking at some options in future years.

@gwiesefarms Ag Ed degree from Iowa State is 92. Lots of beneficial classes: Farm Mgmt., Marketing, many Agronomy classes, Feeds and feeding. Was the last class to be able to take welding in Ag Mech. My son is a freshman in Ag Studies now. Very different than it used to be.

Did anyone attend an ag university and feel they actually learned what they needed to to be successful on the farm? If so, which college and what course or degree?

@ScottErikDavis EQ method of calculating amount of sugar, kosher salt and curing salt based on weight of the meat, vacuum sealing after applying the cure. Refrigerator for 7 days turning daily. Then rinsing, drying for 1 day and smoking. But I did cure 1 slab in the ham brine. It was good!

I've cured my own bacon for a couple of years and am pretty happy with the results. I've wanted to cure a ham but have been a little afraid of it turning out bad and ruining a lot of meat. This is the first ham I have cured after about 20 hours of smoke. #farm365 #ham

My work has taken me to some incredible places. This was one of the more special ones. We shot, hunted and jammed. His music a soundtrack of my life since college. The one and only, Robert Earl Keen. He said to me, “The Road Goes On Forever… and the photos never end.

@ChelsJo1 I so wish they would start closing them at 3 in the afternoon so they would be over before an old guy like me starts falling asleep.

Last night I was watching an online auction before bed and was browsing through the pigs in it. I apparently fell asleep and when I woke up I freaked out thinking I had bid on a pig because it was on the bid/max bid page 😂😂😂😂

So I'm looking for a digital record keeping system, mostly for our cow/calf operation. I already use Performance Beef for our feedlot. I'm investigating CattleMax, Herdwatch, Cattlytics and others. What's everyone else using? #beef #farm365

@sf28430 It was from a card game called Pit. The cards were commodities like corn, wheat, even flax. The object of the game was to try and corner the market by getting as many cards of the same commodity as you could. Played it as a kid. Probably still in my Mom's house. Good times.

HUGE WIN!!!! TRUMP ADMINISTRATION GETS AHEAD OF LOOMING FARMING CRISIS!!! I'm not sure if the country understands the gravity of this trade deal, but the Trump administration has likely just saved countless family farms from going under this year! Corn was projected to hit a 15-year low after the Biden administration disastrously over subsidized GM corn, flooding U.S. markets with too much supply and zero demand—following GMO bans from China to the EU... By August of this year, farmers in our area were literally on the verge of letting entire fields go, as the price per bushel (under $3 dollars) would not have even covered the cost of operating equipment! Until this announcement, farmers were desperately trying to rent out their corn fields to cattle producers through the winter, hoping to recoup some losses, but EVERYONE was preparing for the worst, and I mean on the edge of our seats freaking out.... Ya, sure, lower feed prices are good for ranchers, but not when we lose farms in the process as that means less supply next year...or worse, high import costs. Today, bushel prices are making a steady recovery, and rural America is looking at long-term security for the first time, following year-over-year losses. THANK YOU, SEC. ROLLINS! Thank you, Taiwan! Thank you, President Trump! We still have a long way to go to save the family farm, but this is a win, and I'll take it.

🚨 BREAKING TRADE WIN: Taiwan just committed to $10 BILLION in US agriculture buys over the next 4 years, including soybeans, corn, wheat & beef. 🌾🥩 That’s a game-changer for our farmers & ranchers. America’s producers are BACK on offense & leading the world again! 🇺🇸💪

@radiomurley Not bad. We have had a lot of rain the past 6 weeks but have been dry for a little over a week now. Trucks left some pretty good tracks in a few places but over all, not bad!

@mortfarm1 We were having this very discussion at a seed meeting tonight. I plan to reach out to my nutritionist. Looking at the pile, I can't say it looks any different. But I can see investing in some extra testing to assess any nutritional differences. Great question!
