@asymmetricinfo I like your thinking in this piece but how to let folks know about it? I know, I'll put it on social media, at least it's not the doom loop scroll part of social media, so that's ok. washingtonpost.com/opinions/2026/…

@FareedZakaria good piece. You give him credit when he deserves it and you scold him when he deserves it. I appreciate your point of view and how you back it up in print.

@ChuckThies & I have something in common. We write and tweet something and then soon thereafter what we have written is repeated by the Ed Board of the Post. We appreciate the sincere form of flattery. Thank you @WashPost Ed Board for your opinions. Best, washingtonpost.com/opinions/2026/…

@kinney4dc @trentwholbrook @CMBrookePinto @RobertWhite_DC @GregJaczko Kinney, I agree w/ your response but I’m sorry, my question was much broader and historical. I was referencing the Virginia Retrocession (1846-47) which remains the only path that has fully enfranchised Washingtonians with moving out of the District. Let’s look in the mirror DC.
English

@dkrucoff, if you are talking about semi-open primaries (i.e., less naked partisanship), I agree, as do the 70+% of DC voters who voted for them by referendum. But Robert White voted against funding open primaries. If he is elected Delegate and tries to push for statehood, he'll be laughed out of the room. Why should Congress expand the DC franchise when he didn't as a Councilmember? Why should they respect the will of DC voters when he casually voted against it?
English

@trentwholbrook @CMBrookePinto @kinney4dc @RobertWhite_DC and @GregJaczko, congrats on making the ballot. 3?s: What is the ONLY way Washingtonians have ever gained their complete voting rights without moving? Why religiously avoid that method? Is naked partisanship admirable?

@NancyPJacobson Good piece.

@cuneytdil @michaelschaffer Despite the schizophrenic divisions, the Democrat party monopoly in DC exists. One must register as a Dem to participate in it. Over 100K DC voters don't want to Dems but they should re-register as such and vote in the primary in June and then switch back. I did. I am. I will.
English

>@michaelschaffer made a good point this morning about how D.C.'s Democratic party is basically two parties in one

Former mayor Tony Williams on McDuffie: "D.C. is a city where if you do things right, you can restore investment into our economy. And I think Kenyan is best positioned to do that." washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2026/…

@jbgsmith saw the article in @CoStarNews. Good strategy. Advice: don't do a deal, equity or debt, with either Fortress or Basis.
English

@HankThomasDC I can’t wait to re-register after the primary. It’s awful being a Dem due to DC primary voting necessity.
English

Temporarily switching my voter registration to Democrat in DC. Not because I changed my views, but because DC is a Democrat-only town with a closed primary system, you can’t be in one party and vote in another party’s primary, and the real election is the primary. We cannot allow @Janeese4DC and the Democratic socialist crop of comrades to run the city unchecked, because if that crowd wins, DC is going to go to shit fast.

@cpgrabow WP: Five officials said that Phelan, a billionaire art collector & fundraiser for Donald Trump’s reelection campaign, was forced out after repeated clashes with both Hegseth and Feinberg over his management of SHIPBUILDING and a variety of other issues.
Any thoughts?

@RepMcCormick @Douglass_County If anyone would like me to comment on @RepMcCormick and his bill on air or in print, please contact me. I promise to provide enticing quotes and provocative, but thoughtful and well supported counter points vs the congressman and his legislation.
English

@RepMcCormick @Douglass_County Look to merge into Maryland thru a 2nd Retrocession thereby re-enfranchising and saving billions. MD of course would improve it revenues. 9) Re: Gerrymandering, it should be attacked at every pass and that's a discussion for another thread.
English

@jawillick @derektmuller Imagine MO and MD both agreeing to adopt the District Method as part of a compact. Btw, I know this is aspirational, but it's smart. Each state has 8 districts (10 EC votes). MO is majority R & MD is majority D. It would be a fair trade to point states to the District Method.
English

@jawillick @derektmuller With the District Method each district within a state appoints its vote based on the majority vote within the district. The two senatorial votes for that state vote with the majority vote count of the state.
