“There is no evidence” means exactly what it says: it means there is no evidence. You rely on a lot of “what if” scenarios to dismiss evidence you don’t like or transform speculation into evidence. 1. Dismissal -Early epi data is noisy/useless/incomplete and thus unreliable (based on what, I have never seen a convincing reason why verified early data is unreliable or insufficient? No evidence supporting this claim) -Pekar et al is based on a flawed model (based on what, a bunch of preprints and low impact factor papers by non-experts? No evidence supporting this claim) -Blood bank study is weak (based on what, normal study limitations honestly described in the discussion section? No evidence supporting this claim) -Phylogenetic data doesn’t support 2 spillovers because you think lineage B is derived from lineage A during cryptic spread pre-market (based on what, some tree someone posted on Twitter? No evidence supporting this claim) -Mentioning that most early cases had no link to the market without also noting that in Worobey et al 2022 we found an even stronger geospatial association with the market when we looked at only those unlinked cases (this is omission of contradictory evidence) 2. Based on their papers, they were hit or miss on virus cloning, which in my own experience is extremely common with simpler viruses than CoVs) At the end of the day, you don’t provide evidence to support your claims. You omit or dismiss evidence, reinterpret in a misleading way, or rely on completely invented “what if” scenarios to manufacture it.
