Serious question. Serious answers, please. Why would anyone lend money to the U.S. federal government? It hasn't been able to balance its budget in 25 years. It can't reliably pay its employees. It is $40 trillion in debt currently, with its credit rating being downgraded and its borrowing costs soaring. And it is running a ~$100 trillion (!) ponzi scheme, where benefits ratchet higher automatically each year without any matching revenue hikes. If you were going to lend the government $10k for 10 years, what terms would you demand? For me? 10% a year. Gold contract. Now apply that to the $10 trillion+ in required borrowing for the next 12 months. We're bankrupt.

@Handre Nonsense. Central banks' #1 role - which they hardly ever need to perform - is to back the global credit engine with unquestionable liquidity. Banking is pretty free as it is. Money creation is a special power that obviously requires special rules

Central banks are government monopolies that socialize losses while privatizing profits for their banking cartel partners. When you eliminate market competition, you eliminate market discipline. Free banking means banks compete for your deposits by offering better service, higher interest rates, and sounder monetary policy. Bad banks fail. Good banks thrive. Scotland's free banking era (1716-1845) produced zero bank failures and stable currency. The Federal Reserve cartelizes banking, bails out reckless institutions with your tax dollars, and inflates away your purchasing power to fund government spending. Competition works. Monopolies don't.

JUST IN: Israeli Police prevented Cardinal Pizzaballa from entering the Church of the Holy Sepulchre today, as he went to say Mass. @LPJerusalem calls it a “grave precedent” which “constitutes a manifestly unreasonable and grossly disproportionate measure.” Full statement from @LPJerusalem below —— Joint Press Release The Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem and the Custody of the Holy Land Holy City of Jerusalem Palm Sunday, 29 March 2026 This morning, the Israeli Police prevented the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, His Beatitude Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Head of the Catholic Church in the Holy Land, together with the Custos of the Holy Land, the Most Reverend Fr. Francesco Ielpo, OFM, the official Guardian of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, from entering the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, as they made their way to celebrate the Palm Sunday Mass. The two were stopped en route, while proceeding privately and without any characteristics of a procession or ceremonial act, and were compelled to turn back. As a result, and for the first time in centuries, the Heads of the Church were prevented from celebrating the Palm Sunday Mass at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. This incident is a grave precedent, and disregard the sensibilities of billions of people around the world who, during this week, look to Jerusalem. The Heads of the Churches have acted with full responsibility and, since the outset of the war, have complied with all imposed restrictions: public gatherings were cancelled, attendance was prohibited, and arrangements were made to broadcast the celebrations to hundreds of millions of faithful worldwide, who, during these days of Easter, turn their eyes to Jerusalem and to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Preventing the entry of the Cardinal and the Custos, who bear the highest ecclesiastical responsibility for the Catholic Church and the Holy Places, constitutes a manifestly unreasonable and grossly disproportionate measure. This hasty and fundamentally flawed decision, tainted by improper considerations, represents an extreme departure from basic principles of reasonableness, freedom of worship, and respect for the Status Quo. The Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem and the Custody of the Holy Land express their profound sorrow to the Christian faithful in the Holy Land and throughout the world that prayer on one of the most sacred days of the Christian calendar has thus been prevented.

@pinatubo2007 @RnaudBertrand If the Gulf countries join the war the Strait will stay closed for months. They know it so they won't join. The problem with the Strait is not a lack of ordinance deployed, clearly.

@RnaudBertrand That was Iran's doing. And when they did it, they declared war on the world. So it's lights out for the Mullahs. And bombing Oman, UAE, Kuwait, Saudis, Qatar....Really, really, really stupid. Now Gulf states will join the war. The Strait will be reopened.

@infraa_ @LukeGromen The petrodollar is not really that important. All the oil and gas sold internationally probably adds up to about $2-4 trillion. There are $14 trillion in eurodollar deposits and eurodollar credit is what people use to buy oil - and most other things internationally

Entire premise of the Petrodollar was: 1. You sell oil in USD & recycle revenue into USTs 2. We provide you with security guarantees That foundation is shaky (at the very least), given Iranian hits on GCC Will they have a change of heart? As @LukeGromen says: 'lets watch'

While DXY strength & real rates matter... GCC are almost all pegged to USD. Given the share of energy exports (in USD), this eliminates currency risk for exporters/govts & stabilizes govt finances Those exports just cratered due to SoH and the war so the pegs must be defended

@DEhnts @FortuneMagazine It's amazing. Sure, if we insist on funding the government the way we do now the numbers get a little unwieldy, but we don't have to keep doing that. People just don't realize how big the dollar system really is.

@LaNativePatriot We cannot really know when the collapse will happen because denial and repression are powerful unconscious forces that protect us from anxiety, but when confidence in the dollar and the USA fails, banks, corporations, small business and government will collapse. BE WORRIED.

@infraa_ The "failed Treasury auction" scenario never, ever comes to pass because it's complete bullshit. Treasuries are by far the most valuable financial collateral in the world and there is a perpetual shortage of them. Treasury auctions are purely about price.

Energy Crisis = Sovereign Debt Crisis? This week the US treasury department sold $750 billion in sovereign debt, into one of the weakest bond markets we’ve seen in years… and it didn’t go well. In fact, it was pretty horrible. youtu.be/2Ewg77MzHEg?si…

Every fiat currency in history has collapsed. The Continental, assignats, Reichsmark, Zimbabwe dollar — all worthless paper. The dollar has lost 96% of its value since 1913. Gold has preserved wealth for 5,000 years. Sound money isn't optional; it's inevitable. Tick Tock.

@Handre Nonsense. Look at the eurodollar. The dollar has expanded beyond the Fed system to the tune of $14 TRILLION. That is the opposite of collapse.
