Honored to have played a small part in this exciting work by @jenellefeather & @GretaTuckute, investigating deep neural network (DNN) models of auditory cortex. Some of the cool findings explained in Greta's 🧵 below! And check out the MIT News coverage: news.mit.edu/2023/deep-neur…
Greta Tuckute@GretaTuckute

Our work on models of the auditory cortex is hereby published in @PLOSBiology! The paper presents an extensive analysis of audio neural networks as models of auditory processing in the brain. Paper: tinyurl.com/mw2e59ud w/ @jenellefeather (co-1st) @dlboebinger @JoshHMcDermott

It's so exciting to see my former lab mates & friends land awesome jobs and start their own labs! Ratan is super smart & a great scientist, but more importantly, he's a kind & thoughtful person. Don't sleep on the opportunity to join his lab!
Apurva Ratan Murty@apurvaratan

🎉 Exciting News! 🎉 I'm thrilled to announce that I will be joining #GeorgiaTech as an Assistant Professor starting Jan 1, 2024! I'm actively recruiting members to join the lab. So please spread the word! The lab website also goes live today. murtylab.com

@NeuroTyler Omg, I thought I was the only one. Bane of my existence! Though I wish I could say it was the catalyst that eventually taught me not to open dozens and dozens of papers in different tabs and then leave them open for... a long time.

Why, exactly, do APA PsychNet pages time out? If I come back to an open tab and it's just a blank search page, well, guess which paper I'm not going to be citing!

I also loved getting in the recording booth to provide the flute lullaby stimuli for the experiment. Most fun stimulus recording session ever! 🎵

Love this work by my former lab-mate @heatherlkos (and @SamNormanH & @Nancy_Kanwisher) showing that even very young infants have neural responses that are selective for music. This was a big open question from my own PhD research, and it's great to be closer to an answer.
Heather Lynne Kosakowski@heatherlkos

6 yrs ago @Nancy_Kanwisher @SamNormanH & I decided to study early cortical responses to music & speech. I am excited to announce that our paper, “Preliminary evidence for selective cortical responses to music in one-month-old infants” has been published! onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.11…

@maddie_sofia was our keynote speaker for the 2022 @ComSciCon Flagship Workshop, and we repeatedly heard from attendees that her talk was the one of the most illuminating & thought-provoking parts of the conference. She does important work & is an engaging (& hilarious) speaker!
Maddie Sofia@maddie_sofia

In the last year, more than 10 universities/student groups/orgs have invited me to talk about science communication, journalism, and scientific careers outside academia. It has been such a privilege. If you want me to come talk, I'm booking my schedule for summer and fall now!

The application for this year's @ComSciCon Flagship Workshop is open! This is a fantastic opportunity for grad students interested in #scicomm. I attended in 2017 & have been on the organizing committee most years since then, so I'm happy to answer questions. Do it, do it, do it!
ComSciCon@ComSciCon

We are thrilled to announce that the ComSciCon 2023 Flagship Workshop will be held July 19-22, 2023 at Emerson College in Boston, MA! Apply by March 19 for an all expenses paid opportunity to meet experts and leaders in #SciComm and hone your skills: tinyurl.com/p8y69w9w

Really enjoyed playing a small part in this project spearheaded by @GretaTuckute & @jenellefeather, examining the relationship between the representations of sounds in auditory deep neural networks (DNNs) and human auditory cortex. Check out the tweetprint & the preprint!
Greta Tuckute@GretaTuckute

Excited to present a comprehensive analysis on the extent to which deep neural network (DNNs) can account for brain responses in the human auditory cortex! Work with @jenellefeather (co-1st) @dlboebinger @JoshHMcDermott biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Fascinating line of work from @ev_fedorenko's lab, studying the brains of folks missing part (or all!) of their temporal lobes -- including @helenwsantoro, who wrote about her experience in @NYTScience: nyti.ms/3RlWui6
Ev (like in 'evidence', not Eve) Fedorenko 🇺🇦@ev_fedorenko

Remember the thread (below, for reference) on a woman (EG) who grew up without her left temporal lobe? After @GretaTuckute's work on EG got covered by @WIRED, a few others reached out. One of them, the amazing @helenwsantoro, is sharing her story in NYT: nytimes.com/2022/09/04/sci…
