My coursemate. He graduated with a first-class degree. We were about to finish our service year when tragedy struck. His uncle in the US had secured admission for him to pursue his master’s degree. On his way to Abuja to complete some documentation, he got into an acc1dent and d!ed on the spot. He was the only child of his parents. When his father received the news, he slûmped and d!ed immediately. Just weeks before their burial, his mother took her own life too (po!son). In the end, all three of them were bur!ed on the same day. The day of their bur1al, vanity stopped being a scripture. It became a story I witnessed.

Her story: Frans du Toit and Theuns Kruger are back in prison after the Minister of Correctional Services revoked their parole in February 2025. The attack took place on December 18th 1994 in Port Elizabeth South Africa. Alison Botha was 27 years old when the 2 men abducted her from her apartment parking lot drove her to a remote field raped her stabbed her abdomen 36 times and slashed her throat 17 times before leaving her for dead. She held her head with one hand pushed her organs back with the other and crawled to the road where she was found. Botha identified the attackers from hospital photos leading to their arrests. They pleaded guilty and received life sentences in August 1995. After serving 28 years they were granted parole in July 2023 but public outrage prompted the revocation. The Minister of Correctional Services confirmed that Frans du Toit and Theuns Kruger were reincarcerated on February 4th 2025.
