I love finding coins! It always reminds me just how lucky I am. And I know what you’re thinking… how is finding a 10c coin lucky? You can’t even buy a chappie with that? Please bear with me. I haven’t lost my marbles. I’ve spoken about him before but I love Derren Brown and his way of thinking. He has loads of different shows and series, but there is this brilliant episode in his “Experiments” collection called "The Secret of Luck", where he digs into the concept of luck and how what we believe, actually shapes our world. In the episode, Brown spreads a rumour in a small town about a "lucky" statue of a dog. The whole thing kicks off with a made-up story about a local guy whose life changes after touching the statue. As the rumour spreads, it’s fascinating to see how people who believe in the statue’s luck suddenly start experiencing lucky moments – while those who don’t? Nothing changes. There’s “kinda” a main “character” in the episode called Wayne. Wayne is a total sceptic who doesn’t buy into any of it. Brown tries everything to show him that luck is just opportunities we choose to see. He puts a winning scratch card in Wayne’s post box. Wayne ignores it. He even plants a £50 note right on Wayne’s usual path to work. Wayne walks right past it. A whole £50 note, just sitting there, waiting to be found! And he literally walks right over it. The team then drive past Wayne with a "billboard truck" that has a sign that says, "Wayne, call this number," and the guy chooses to ignore it. They drive past him several times throughout the day. And he keeps choosing to ignore it. Until someone points it out for him. That’s where my 10c coin comes in. The one I picked up yesterday has probably been walked over, has 100% been driven over and totally ignored by so many people. But I saw it. And I know the value it holds, not just in cents, but in what it symbolises. So, while it might just be a 10c coin to some, to me, it’s a little reminder that I’m bladdy lucky and, more so, my eyes are wide open to all the opportunities around me. Maybe this will make you see things – and opportunities – a little differently today. Like, this is your "call this number" sign. It’s so much more than just a 10c coin. It's pure luck (that we have the power to create). Okay. Love you. Bye.
