FWIW. There is more to it. IF he was 'shown the door' it's because of a disagreement on how to handle the Larkin saga and/or how to navigate the changing NHL landscape. The events that lead to his dismissal were recent, otherwise this move would have been made 4/15, not 7/15.

My Thoughts on What Detroit Red Wings Owner-Chris Illitch is Thinking in Regards to the Dylan Larkin Situation: ————————————————— I truly think a better takeaway from the Yzerman news (in regards to the Wild and Larkin) is….. We know that Yzerman was comfortable waiting this out until he got players that could help him win now. Yzerman already was on the hot seat after taking over in 2019 and missing the playoffs every year since. Not to mention the fans booing his team off the ice in their last Home Game. Then, your Captain for the past Half Decade demands out of Detroit the Week after the Season Ended. Yzerman was willing to wait for an Offer that helped his team and his vision of the team win now. The two possibilities are this: Chris Illitch (DET Owner) is taking pressure off of a Larkin trade with a New GM and a Clean Slate. Perhaps, Larkin walks it back (unlikely), but maybe he wants to buy time to make a Trade during the season when a Better player is offered. Or The Much more likely version is the Reality that the Locker Room is already not in a great place and bringing this situation through the Regular Season would do more harm than good. It would be a mistake by the Detroit Red Wings if they decided to hit a Homerun with the Larkin trade and potentially lose the guys that truly put butts to seats (the players). What I’m hinting at is, I would strongly believe it’s in the best interest of Detroit to cash in on multiple 1st Rd picks and 2 good prospects. You are at best the 5th best Team in your own division next year while Larkin is sitting out. This team isn’t close to making a Playoff Run and their remaining prospects aren’t strong enough to push them through. Detroit needs to objectively look at the landscape of their team, ask themselves what are they missing so they can become a Perennial Playoff Team that can Contend. Right Now, I think they need to do a soft Rebuild for a Year or Two and stash up on 1st Rd Picks, and Young Prospects that are closer to Seider and Raymond’s Age. And once you build more organizational depth, you use your stacked assets and get a Star player in a Trade with term in 2 Years. This team needs one more wave of young and talented players to take this group to the next level. (DaBrincat might even be on the way out, expiring contract in 11 Months) Detroit can’t get desperate and push all their chips to the middle of the Table right now when they aren’t close to 3 Teams in their own Division. If they can trade DaBrincat for multiple 1sts and prospects and then get 2-3 1sts from Minnesota and 2 Good Prospects. The Red Wings would have 8 1st Rd Picks over the next 4 Years. And a Bunch of Young Guys Developing. Detroit already struggles to attract Superstar Players, they don’t need this proverbial cloud over their head around the NHL saying “we will drag out a bad situation and hold players hostage when they don’t want to be here” makes it even tougher for agents and players to want to Come to Detroit. *I think Minnesota can help Detroit Kickstart their Soft Rebuild. Detroit go and try to get 3 1sts, Yurov, Stramel, and our Best Defensive Prospect. There’s nothing wrong with waiting out some Elite Teams in your division for a few years While Detroit Loads up as a Asset Rich Franchise when these surrounding elite teams die down a bit in 2 years.

@CoachBGonzo @smithscoat The players don’t like Larkin, he has his own little cliche from Michigan and that’s about it. I did security for the training camps in Traverse City. Larkin is a great player, but very soft! Whined about not being captain for 2 seasons, for a start. Soft as baby shit!!

I absolutely don’t believe SY was a perfect GM. That being said, I have little faith in Chris Illitch to make the right hire. I’ll also stand on this, I believe Dylan Larkin is soft. I don’t believe he’s a leader. Everytime Larkin took a shot, no player ever stood up for him

@Sko64Paul @bobwojnowski Yzerman had 7 years not a decade. Larkin is a part of this and soft as baby shit! We never had an overall number one pick, like all the other teams that have passed us by. Yzerman made a ton of mistakes, but Larkin is super soft!

@bobwojnowski Don’t blame Larking for his request and Stevie has had a decade but the timing of this is bad. Would have been nice to have a GM in place for the draft unless the replacement has already been chosen.

Yzerman is a great hockey mind and leader. That doesn't change because it didn't work here. My guess is, with the Larkin impasse, he knew it would take longer to turn around. He didn't want that and I assume Chris Ilitch didn't either. Can we call it a semi-mutual parting?
