Today, I signed the operating budget for Washington state. My team and I worked in close partnership with legislators to craft a budget that allows us to continue meeting Washingtonians' core needs, while also living within the state's means, despite the harm done by the Trump Administration and MAGA Congress.  We secured important wins for affordability — including assistance on health care premiums to low-income individuals and funds to help low-income residents pay utility bills. I also recently signed the Millionaires' Tax to rebalance our upside-down tax code, which goes into effect in 2029.  We mitigated harms from the Trump Administration — including providing food benefits for the 30,000 immigrants with lawful status denied SNAP benefits, backfilling Medicaid funding to Planned Parenthood, and funding healthcare for very ill or disabled Washingtonians who were kicked off Medicaid.  Our state agencies took $1 billion in reductions.  I'm grateful for our state employees who are doing more with less.  Thank you to members of the public who engaged in the process, my budget team, sponsors Sen. Robinson and Rep. Ormsby, and vice-chairs Sen. Stanford, Sen. Frame, Rep. Gregerson, and Rep. Macri.
