We are excited to announce that in the next few weeks in conjunction with @salvationarmysf, we will be opening "Hope House." San Francisco’s first abstinence based shelter for the homeless. Leaving your addiction behind is a huge first step to recovery! @SteveAdami

San Francisco is desperate for recovery. thewayoutsf.org is working hard to provide a full continuum of care from detox to housing. We should all be working together to end this, not to defend the status quo. @SteveAdami

I am astounded at how vigorously some people defend the status quo on drugs and homelessness in San Francisco. We cannot resolve these problems by doing what we have always done and hoping that somehow the outcome will be different.

JMC Participant Outreach Saved a Life Today. JMC participants went to 16th & Mission to talk to those suffering in addiction. 15 minutes after they arrived a voice says “l am tired” minutes after that she was in RWS and on the road to recovery! @TheWayOutSF @salvationarmysf

Sadly some Sacramento politicians are fighting to preserve the status quo on homelessness. Leaving people to live and die on the streets is not the answer. We need to be able to use a brief and narrowly-targeted interaction with the courts to get those trapped on the streets into the drug, alcohol, and mental healthcare treatment that will help then be able to come and stay indoors.

San Jose's @MattMahanSJ may be the most interesting CA Mayor. He's a Dem who is willing to punish the homeless who refuse housing. Some Dems want to stop him. @melmason says he's trying to moderate the party @murphymike: being "against the status quo" is good politics.

There is no evidence that *moderating* illicit street drug use achieves better health outcomes than *abstaining* from illicit street drug use, with or without MAT. That’s why my “Recovery First Ordinance” defines recovery inclusively and accurately. (2/3) sfgov.legistar.com/View.ashx?M=F&…

Of the many things mayor @DanielLurie is doing to reduce homelessness in San Francisco is to take a step back from aspects of harm reduction like public distribution of foil, pipes and straws. 1/2

Homelessness can’t be a choice. Especially when over 200 people die on the streets each year. Especially when it’s harming the broader community — shuttering small businesses and costing taxpayers tens of millions each year. Especially when we’re offering a safe, private, dignified alternative. I am proposing that after 3 offers of shelter, we hold people accountable for turning their lives around. Because we all have a responsibility to end this crisis – government has a responsibility to build shelter, and our homeless neighbors have a responsibility to use it.

🥷We rolled by 6th and Mission last night and this is what we saw.... It is not acceptable to clean up Jessie and 6th Street and call this SUCCESS. The City's just hoping you don't peek around the corner and see where they've herded folks, swept under the proverbial rug, they are someone else's problem now🧹
