New Unreal 5.6 River tools used in The Witcher 4 demo make it easy to add water simulation to a landscape - it realistically collides, generates whitewater, and even supports buoyancy for floating objects. All in real-time. Tutorials have been added to the Unreal Megabundle.

@dmpvfx Excellent presentation. I have 3 notes on the raft demo: 1 - at 2 places the white water foam seemed obviously far too constant and made the water feel fake. 2) please see if you can apply material wetness to the surrounding landscape and objects. 3) at the end there were lines

@jukerlaw Data channels are a way for Niagara Systems to communicate their particles between each other. It only works wirh CPU particles right now, but is a nice way to have multiple Niagara System actors for source particles feed into a fluid system as a source. Lots of other uses too!

Next up for our tour of #UnrealEngine5.3 features - data channel emission! This lets you source fluid from particles that are part of a different system. This is very handy for working in the viewport as you can easily modify your sources without opening the #Niagara Editor.

@danielelliott3d @jose_morval @UnrealEngine There is a lot of magic under the hood, but Grid2D will let you read from the previous grid values stored in the previous buffer, then write to the grid values in the current buffer. This lets you do various grid bases update operations with double buffering behind the scenes.

@jose_morval @UnrealEngine you can probably do it, but there will probably be a race condition. I know that grids take care of a source and target for each stage that gets swapped but I'm not sure render targets do that. @dmpvfx would know :)

Last time I checked, UE's Niagara fluid examples still all used the standard navier-stokes approach, right? Has this poisson filters method been implemented in UE yet? I'm not up to date, too many things happening everywhere all at once 😅

#Niagara Fluids has a checkbox for deterministic particle sourcing, which gives you the exact same results each time you run a 3D gas sim without changing it. It's useful for your #UnrealEngine5.3 cinematic shots!
