The human body evolved over hundreds of thousands of years so you could sit at a desk in a cubicle, stare at artificial light, and pretend you do not want to kill yourself, and if you cannot focus on that for 9 hours a day, 5 days a week, they call it a mental disorder.

There has been a lot of coverage about Spirit Airlines closing abruptly, flights being canceled, passengers being stranded, and travel plans being disrupted.
Those things matter. But for many passengers, the inconvenience will be temporary.
What we cannot move past are the approximately 17,000 workers who are now facing the loss of income, benefits, stability, and the ability to provide for themselves and their families.
Behind every corporate headline are human beings. Parents. Caregivers. Workers who gave years of their lives. People now asking, “What do I do now?”
The Beloved Community calls us to see them. Not as numbers. Not as collateral damage. Not as people to be forgotten once the news cycle moves on.
My prayers are with the Spirit employees, contractors, and families navigating this painful uncertainty.
May they receive support, opportunity, and the dignity every worker deserves.

remember last year when a revolving door of CEOs were making bombastic claims about AI generated code every week?
microsoft, for instance, said "30% of their code was written by AI. by 2030, that'll be 99%"
but what have they shipped? how does this stack up?
- MS shipped a new windows run dialog that takes 100ms to load. that's right, a dialog with a text box and a button
- GitHub can't even ship a new CEO and keep the thing running for more than 5 minutes
- Amazon? crickets
- Google? crickets bar gemini and gemma
- OpenAI can't get GPT-5.5 to stop talking about goblins
- Anthropic is a walking disaster of poor quality, user hostility and unreliability
and yet how many times did we hear "you haven't seen what i've seen. you're not ready for what's coming"
so what IS coming? where is it? i cant see it
i only see bullshit, backtracking, bloat and bugs. at this point, i don't expect anything different than what we have now
and, after all his bluster, neither does sam altman

Okay guys, had a few cultural shocks in Spain: > Go to the gym, opens 10am on a Sunday > Go to work from a coworking, closed > Go to a coffee shop, no wifi Absolutely unthinkable in a barely productive economy like the US, yet alone UAE. Europe is a daylight museum.

This is deeply stupid & I say this as a restaurant owner.
1) The longer a restaurant has been open the lower its overall basis is. A new restaurant built at today’s costs will have higher debt & fixed costs than one built 10 years ago. But compete at the ~ same price points.
2) If a restaurant has been around >25 years it’s far more likely they own the real estate. If so this means yet another advantage for a restaurant already likely to be in a better position.
3) And finally it’s bad because the state has no business propping up one restaurant over another. If a 35 year old restaurant with its own real estate cannot compete, it’s actually good for it to turn over into something that people do want. The sheer age of a restaurant doesn’t earn it the right to be subsidized by its competitors.
