@KangarooBeach Retrieval is a ‘force multiplier’ for rural docs. With good retrieval mechanisms more docs are likely to work rural knowing there is backup. In the absence of retrieval there are likely less docs volunteering. Also, words matter. A harsh word or two hurts and has impact

We often hear talks from retrieval about their service & rescuing rural pts It’s true that rural setting is austere & pts disadvantaged And rural Drs may not be best at critical care But some very capable Id love audit of how retrieval are perceived by rural Not always rosy

The answer is largely going to be: Through our patients and our communities.

Today at #ama24 Minister Butler quoted Ambrose Bierce when describing health advocacy: ‘A strife of interests masquerading as a context of principles’. How do we best advocate for our patients with risks for scope of practice if we are perceived as masquerading?

Thank you Holly from TMR for a great chat. While as Rural Chair and Vice President my role was to prosecute the message and the voice of the Board, when running in a campaign I am able to speak as an individual. Just under 2 weeks till voting. medicalrepublic.com.au/meet-the-candi…

@KangarooBeach @brookmanknight You are a kind man and if I have your support that is a great achievement in itself! Rural will always be a core focus, passion and dominate my clinical energy, but the lessons apply equally to urban generalism and the need to support the profession

Racgp Presidential Campaign for 2024 is underway and now is the right time for me to take the step from Vice President in my advocacy journey and lead the college as President. Some great candidates and real passion for the profession is exciting. clementsmedical.com.au/racgp-president

I wasn’t the first to use the term ‘urban narcissism’ in rural healthcare discussions, I heard it from recent AMA Rural Chair Marco Giuseppin. But it reflects health planning decision making well theguardian.com/australia-news…

Talk of bulk billing rates increasing for some patient groups and 'free' urgent access for those close enough to an urgent care clinic is a distraction from the fact we are moving towards a two-tier system with the group of have-nots getting larger. www1.racgp.org.au/newsgp/profess…

While pharm vax’s are important and climbing, the drop in GP vax numbers is greater. With ⬇️ engagement with GP comes ⬇️ opportunistic vax, screening, prevention. This is what underinvestment in GP looks like. Flu vax uptake lowest in years 9news.com.au/national/flu-s…
