Thank you for sharing your story. Healthcare was ripped from physicians' hands because of the false claim that fee-for-service was evil and that physicians couldn't be trusted. The new system is a complicated corporate system that gives the illusion of care for immense premiums. This facade quickly falls away anytime you need care. Then, the cost-sharing is revealed through: • Co-pays • Co-insurance • Maximum out-of-pocket • Deductible • Lifetime maximum benefit What we don't see is the price the insurance company pays. We never see the net price for drugs or other services. Insurance companies are supposed to be paid to take risks, but now the risk is passed onto the customers paying the premiums. Health insurance has become a game of 3 card monte.
A Dad@RockwellVIPER

Where Work and Life Meet: Advocating for Our Parents in a Healthcare System That’s Lost Its Way These past weeks have been a wake-up call. My mom was rushed to the hospital, and as I fought to ensure her safety, it was like hitting wall after wall. And it hit me — so much of healthcare has become about monetizing illness rather than healing people. It’s built around processes, protocols, and discharge quotas, but somewhere along the way, it’s lost the heart of what care is supposed to be. My dad, who has his own health struggles, can’t care for her alone. But instead of finding reassurance in a system that’s meant to help, I found myself struggling to get answers, to find someone who could explain how my mom’s needs would be met. After hours on the phone with insurance and hospital staff, asking, pleading for clarity, one question kept coming up: What are you doing to help the patient? It’s not a complicated question. But in a system driven by policies and profit, it was met with silence, deflection, or “someone else will call you.” Watching my mom’s needs get lost in the shuffle brought a harsh reality to light: we, as family members, have to be our loved ones’ advocates. We have to cut through the red tape, the financial bottom lines, and the endless procedures to make sure our parents aren’t just another box to check off. This isn’t about pointing fingers — it’s about a call to action for all of us. If you have parents or loved ones in the healthcare system, don’t wait to advocate. Ask the hard questions, stay with them through the uncomfortable moments, and keep bringing it back to what matters: How are you helping the person in front of you? Our parents raised us, supported us, and took care of us through every hard moment in our lives. Now it’s our turn. Let’s make sure that when they need help, we’re ready to cut through the noise and demand the care they deserve.

statnews.com/2024/10/09/lin… CVS and United Health have asked a Federal judge to remove Lina Kahn and two democratic commissioners from the FTC lawsuit against the three large PBMS and their affiliated GPOs. This comes after Express Scripts filed a lawsuit against Lina Kahn and the FTC, seeking the removal of the FTC interim report on PBMs. These are very aggressive moves being taken by three companies that have a combined revenue of $ 4093 Billion in 2023 per the FTC lawsuit against them. All three of the PBMs are part of large integrated healthcare companies that are publicly traded and have vast resources to litigate any challenge from a regulatory agency. The three PBMs want to protect their pot of gold at all costs. These actions underscore the urgent need for Congress to reform PBMs and swiftly pass HR 9096. After that, Congress should outlaw insurance companies from owning PBMs and PBMs from owning pharmacies. Healthcare is expensive, provides little value, and is not patient-centered in the world of vertical integration. It is time to tear down the wall of vertical integration in healthcare that plagues us all and is bankrupting the country.

@Bec_Shrader Not different than most mission work in other countries. You have to be flexible, humble, and selfless. You cannot focus on your need for fulfillment, but rather the people you are there to help.

Massive debris flow traveling at lightning speed in eastern TN! The preceding drought conditions followed by days of rain ahead of Hurricane Helene set the stage. This is incredibly rapid for a debris flow.

This is a USMLE Step 3 score report. It was submitted to a state medical board in support of their application for a medical license. As you can see, it shows that the person passed the test with a 199. There’s just one problem with this report. It’s fake. (🧵)

A suit was filed against Wells Fargo today by employees who claim that the drug expenses are too high. Wells Fargo currently uses Express Scripts, and the lawsuit claims that Wells Fargo does not fulfill their Fiduciary responsibility under ERISA. This is similar to the lawsuit against J&J. PBMs don't have a Fiduciary responsibility, but employers do. This puts employers in a difficult position, and they need to avoid contracting with any PBM that is not transparent. Mark Cuban did post that for large companies who contract with a PBM that accepts rebates; it is not a question of if they will get sued but when. This speaks to the urgent need for PBM reform. We all know what needs to be done, and it is a question of whether our politicians will do it!
