@PalliThordarson As I used to tell everyone when I trained them on making peptides: the only reason I know the synthesis back to front, is because I've stuffed it up in every way imaginable - once. 😉

@PalliThordarson It's a great point, Palli. Failure is fine, if you learn from it. Part of it though - across both industry and academia - is having the right folks who can help interpret and implement any learnings from said failure.

Recently, at a forum with some industry folks, they said they want graduates that have had experience in things failing and not working (and hence how to deal with that). This is not dissimilar. Assessments that students fail can be constructive if correctly implemented.

@AJPrincep It can be rough sometimes! I always feel it more when I see folks from my former field catching up at conferences and having a great time. Aside from that, there's not much I miss.

This week is the first week in 2 years I have felt any regret at leaving academia, and I think it's just the honeymoon period is over and I've been reminded that even this amazing job has the potential to be incredibly rough.
