@invadingpirate @JoshHalliday Looks like “someone” bought millions of these LFTs (without really understanding their limitations) & is now desperate to find some use for them. Turns out a degree in Classics (@BorisJohnson) or PPE (@MattHancock) aren’t much use when it comes to understanding statistics!

Well, we have been banging on about false positives, especially at a time of low prevalence, for about 3 months now. We've not seen a single true positive LFD for a long time. theguardian.com/world/2021/apr…

@sarahhudsonuk The small print here is delusional. 14 days on the job training to learn to "practice safely". Ah yes! Those 14 days of medical school. Funny. It seemed longer.

Medicine is already an apprenticeship, underpinned by a solid, broad foundation acquired at medical school, alongside clinical placements. Proposal consultation form link below - focus should be on widening access, not creating a substandard route instituteforapprenticeships.org/developing-new…

I'm not sure about any other healthcare sinners out there, but I'm pretty sure my purgatory would be a never ending stream of mandatory training.....

@LanceForman @RishiSunak NHS doctors (and probably other staff too - I just don’t have the figures to hand) have already taken over 20% pay cut over the last decade or so. Not for a few months, but for life. With a few exceptions we don’t moan that much. Keep your clap, thanks.

So the chancellor @RishiSunak has brought back furloughing which means many in the private sector will only earn 80% of their normal salary. I call upon the entire public sector to take a 20% pay cut in solidarity for the period of the lockdown.

@manish2107 @AndyThornley Amazing to think that taking money to ask a question was once considered improper. Where is “getting paid to lead a government agency because you’re mates with the PM” on that scale? And that’s before even considering whether she is competent. Spoiler alert: she’s not.

@manish2107 @AndyThornley What would the upgrade, be though? I'm not asking for a potted outline of The Peerage (I am sufficiently dull to know that stuff already). It's more of an existential "where does she go from here" type question...

@allisonpearson Errrr.... The 2020 excess attributable to COVID - as I understand it - is an excess in that it is over and above (ie “in excess of”) the usual seasonal flu excess (which isn’t really an excess - because it happens most years).

Your daily reminder. In the winter of 2017/18, there were 50,100 flu deaths. Yes, flu. Excess deaths. No one locked down the country.

@conquestfrca You can provide bad medicine (innaccurate diagnoses, ineffective treatments and poor outcomes) really cheaply. To do anything well takes experience and training, which is expensive.

@KaanthanJ @t_hewson @PennineCareNHS I am waiting on the answer here too; we are moving to 24/7 middle grade presence and anything that can improve handover, supervision and continuity is of interest.
