Too often, the result is the weaponization of migration- both by those who use fear of the outsider to fracture the very multilateralism we need. Some others hold migrants solely responsible for the socio-economic challenges they face for Political and electoral advantages. Addressing the violence against immigrants requires responsible leadership at all levels of our society and government. It should not be allowed to threaten African unity and solidarity. It’s probably the 10th Nigerian I’m seeing on the TL celebrating a Visa or Citizenship and everyone is congratulating them!! Surely the Nigerian government can’t see this as normal behaviour? Surely they should be more worried about their people seeing leaving Nigeria as an achievement than worrying about South Africans marching in their streets against their criminals and calling it xenophobia?

You become poets when it’s time to be accountable for your millions of people that are invading other peoples countries and selling drugs, prostituting women, hijacking buildings, scamming people and trafficking women and children!! For once would you please take accountability for your citizens and their behaviour in other peoples countries, then fix your governance so they don’t see migration and becoming citizens in other countries as an achievement!
