Great Plenary session on Integration. Evidence-based, collaborative, personalised teams in place. Real world examples of the Darzi shifts to prevention and community. Left wondering if these examples of success are planned and directed from our central policies or actually counter-(NHS)cultural to how we've set up our system. #NICEconf25 @NICEComms @doctormkumar

‘Having now made the decision to abolish NHS England, & while we still wait for the publication of the NHS 10 year plan, the government must be clear why this significant structural change at this time is necessary, & how it fits into their wider plans.' kingsfund.org.uk/insight-and-an…

Thank you to everyone who turned up to today's @NHS_GM Elective Recovery and Reform hybrid workshop on Advice & Guidance. Between online and in-person delegates we managed to cover every locality/provider and almost all NHS disciplines. Having worked in the GM system leadership for nearly a decade now, this feels like a good moment of energy, collaboration and transparency. Exactly what is needed to meet this difficult moment. Huge improvements achieved over the past 12 months but no-one in the room satisfied we're near enough to our aspirations for the NHS here to slow down yet. Grateful to our GM team and all our partners for this mornings shift. Good things happening. #Electivecare @NHSElectiveCare @MarkFisherNHS @doctormkumar

The role and skills of leaders needs to change, in line with profound changes in the workplace. In a new article in @HarvardBiz, a group of experts has identified 6 essential skills to thrive as a leader in the new environment: 1) emotional aperture - the ability to understand and tune into the emotional dynamics of others 2) adaptive communication - knowing how and when to adjust our behaviour & leadership style, connecting to the emotional energy of others 3) flexible thinking - able to flex with competing priorities & hold opposing ideas in our heads 4) perspective seeking, taking & coordinating - actively seek different perspectives & integrate new information into our approach 5) strategic disruption skills - questioning long-standing practices & pushing for continuous learning and improvement 6) resilient self-awareness - recognising our own boundaries/limitations & setting a healthy example for others. There are links to lots of useful resources for developing these skills: hbr.org/2024/10/6-esse…. By @knightrm. I would add a 7th essential skill: network & connection skills – ability to operate with both formal & informal influence and build sustainable relationships.
