@xwanyex To steelman them, i think its different with insurance because you already oay them to pay the doctor. Of course i dont think the insurance company necessarily evil But idk the details to say whether the insurance companies are at fault.

I don’t understand how this doesn’t infinitely regress. If the insurance company is evil for not paying for the care that would save your life, then the doctor is similarly evil for not providing the care, anyway, even if the insurance company won’t pay for it. And if that’s the case, then you’re evil for not putting every spare dollar you have into building hospitals and paying doctors.

This is terminal law brain. If you're getting wealthy by enforcing a policy of aggressive denial of health insurance claims, which then results in deaths, I mean maybe "murder" is a triggering word but whatever it is, it's deeply unethical and immoral, even if it's "legal".

@iam_shwa If you get these 3 points you will be closer to the truth. Church history, philosophy, science, biblical scholarship and exagesis should work in tandem. The final epistemic authority for your beliefs is really you, ultimately. The other things are only aids or heuristics.

@iam_shwa Just because its old doesnt mean its correct or permanent Just because the pope said it doesnt mean its infallible, unless its ex cathedra Just because the bible didnt say it, doesnt mean its false. And if the bible did say it. Its not necessarily literally true or unchanging.

@aas_ker I have just lost everything financially at a late stage in life. I have no financial future. I can’t sleep without 2 meds and on antidepressants. My life has turned from Being a joyful man to a miserable anxious mess. I literally cannot sleep without 2 meds. God help me.

@LizzieMarbach @SwordofFire37 I read romans 13 and it seens to use the term "the sword" to refer to punishment generally which at the time wouldve been the death penalty in some cases. The church doesnt condemn it in historical cases but it does now since we have the means to keep people away from society

This is anti-Christ. It is because of the dignity of every person that God instituted the death penalty in Genesis 9:6. Also, note how he has no problem using “abolish” in terms of the death penalty, but not in terms of abortion.
Pope Leo XIV@Pontifex

I offer my support to those who advocate for the abolition of the death penalty in the United States of America and around the world. I pray that your efforts will lead to a greater acknowledgement of the dignity of every person, and will inspire others to work for the same just cause. vatican.va/content/leo-xi…

It’s a more subtle point than that. Women want to be valued for more than just sex. As long as she provides sex, she doesn’t know whether he values her otherwise. The only way she could find out is if there’s no sex and he keeps investing in her.
Aruvin 💊@aruvinchan

"All guys want is sex; once they get it, they leave." I don't think it's necessarily the case, though it might seem so to a girl who has been pumped and dumped ad nauseam. The problem is that she's so used to guys catering to her and overlooking her personality defects JUST to get into her pants. She mistakes that niceness as the man's acceptance of her personality, but the truth is he's sticking around DESPITE her personality. Once he secures sex, he has no reason anymore whatsoever to stick around and be subject to her terrible personality. Guys behave very differently after getting into the girl's pants vs. before, because the incentives have completely changed then. Suddenly all her personality defects and shortcomings aren't so tolerable anymore. The true measure of your personality as a woman is post-sex treatment, not pre-sex treatment. Pre-sex treatment is obfuscated by the man's thirst and willingness to make exceptions just to secure the lay. Post-sex treatment is when your personality traits are assessed objectively, and that's where a lot of girls fail. So is it the guy's fault if all guys want to do with you is ejaculate and avacuate? Honestly I don't know 1 single guy who wouldn't want to keep seeing the girl over and over again if she's feminine, caring, and pleasant to be around. It's very easy to blame the guy and take 0 responsibility for your own situation. But the very fact is being pumped and dumped isn't a universal female experience; it happens to only some girls, not all. There are plenty of girls who have no problems keeping a man around, even after having sex on the first date. Because they actually have a great personality. If all you have to offer is sex, and your personality is shit, don't be surprised when men just use you as a hole they fuck and then run away almost immediately after the deed is done. What else is there to stay for?

Actually, Christianity is not monotheist as that's a modern category. Instead, it's another modern category called henotheist plus another modern category called monolatrous. It's not my fault you actually believe the Bible & the Creed, dingus. Get on my level of scholarship.

Sexual compatibility probably is a thing, but there’s no good way to test for it. Maybe if you have been married and widowed, and were dating someone who also lost their spouse, you could intelligently talk through things while discerning and dating, since you have actual experience. But that probably doesn’t get you far as people are different. You just have to roll the dice and hope you can work through issues when they arise.
HOT LEGS BIBI🙄@ButterBibi

Sexual Compatibility is valid like mad. As a Christian, how do you know you’re sexually compatible with your partner before marriage?

Its the defense metric used against radical skepticism... Protestants use the same damn solopsisim themselves often. Its an anchor to use to keep from being pulled into sophistry. Duh. Its not the argument to prove a position, but a grounding to ensure whatever argument is being made its not reduced to radical skepticism. How is this not understood?

I've never read an account of an atheist who was persuaded by TAG. Usually, conversion accounts highlight teleological, cosmological, and historical arguments. TAG is really about the apologist convincing himself by having an antidote to radical skepticism.

@desertcynic There's nothing wrong with TAG if by that you mean, if God is real, God is the ground of knowledge, its precondition, and that this should be demonstrable. People with tunnel vision and aspergers obviously go crazy with it, tho.

Tiresome. This reads like an attack on abortion, but the Pope's reply tweet then only attacks capital punishment. No serious Christian can argue that the death penalty is inherently wrong. All arguments against it are just preening attempts to inject leftism into theology.
Pope Leo XIV@Pontifex

The Catholic Church has consistently taught that each human life, from the moment of conception until natural death, is sacred and deserves to be protected. Indeed, the right to life is the very foundation of every other human right. For this reason, only when a society safeguards the sanctity of human life will it flourish and prosper.

Again, the Catechism literally says vicarious penances are not done for a medicinal purpose. Those are its exact words. If your claim is that no one can do vicarious penances because all are sinners, you are directly contradicting the Catechism which is speaking of purposes of penance done by the ordinary faithful.

I'm curious here. I'm not going to push back, but I am genuinely curious for RC responses. Suppose you have a daughter in the woods who hits herself with a stick in such a way where it doesn't leave a permanent mark. It's red for a bit but then goes away. You learn she is doing this to reduce the anger of God due to herself and the world. Is this a good thing in your eyes? (Note: I know the responses about fasting. Please stop pretending that fasting to cultivate virtue is the same thing spiritually and psychologically as fasting to reduce God's anger due to you or the world. It is not, and your own sources acknowledge the distinction. A man who takes an ice bath to cultivate endurance and a man who takes an ice bath because he thinks his suffering is recompense averting God's wrath due him or the world are clearly not in an identical frame of mind)
