Not many people these days know that the British Empire was the driving force behind ending the vast majority of global slavery.
Slavery or de facto slavery was standard practice throughout the world from the dawn of civilization until a few hundred years ago. It is even discussed at length in the Bible, for example.
ThinkingWest@thinkingwest
The British Empire was, in some ways, a force for good. In many places it occupied it: -raised the standard of living -developed infrastructure -promoted education It also single-handedly ended slavery for much of the world…🧵(thread)

@Number10cat @Teslaconomics This is a good point. However they needs to be a balance. I don't think SpaceX is a cowboy outfit, but appropriate regulation is always necessary.

@Teslaconomics I have a submersible to sell you; some assembly required and needs collecting from the bottom of the North Atlantic

@uhrvkirgnwwxc @FortuneMagazine A promise is a promise. He did the impossible. He deserves it. Next time, perhaps shareholders should negotiate a more modest package, but we should not reneg on a promise

Musk says retail shareholders still back him despite $1.7 trillion oil fund saying they will vote against his pay package. fortune.com/2024/06/10/elo…

@stevenmarkryan Two points about Elon's compensation package
1. He did the 'impossible' and should be compensated for it
2. Without Elon's guidance with respect to automous driving, robotics and energy storage, Tesla would just be another car company with the same stock value of Ford and GM

@LeadingReport The United States desperately needs an independent fact gathering agency that everyone can trust. In Australia, we have the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS). All politicians use ABS figures to make their arguments. Why are figures so disputed in the US?

BREAKING: Biden told 15 lies in a brief 17-minute interview with CNN, according to the New York Post.
1. “I’ve created over 15 million jobs since I’ve been president.”
2. “Other than Herbert Hoover, [Donald Trump] is the only president who has lost more jobs than he created.”
3. “Look at what he says he’s going to do if he gets elected. Says he’s going to do away with what I’ve done on Medicare, reducing the price of Medicare.”
4. “You know we have 1,000 billionaires in America. Know what their average federal tax is? 8.3%.”
5. “We’ve already turned it around [on the economy].”
6. “The polling data has been wrong all along.”
7. “There’s corporate greed going out there. And it’s got to be dealt with.”
8. “[Inflation] was 9% when I came to office.”
9. “They have the money to spend. It angers them and angers me that they have to spend more.”
10. “Civilians have been killed in Gaza as a consequence of those bombs, and other ways in which they go after population centers.”
11. “We’re not walking away from Israel’s security. We’re walking away from Israel’s ability to wage war in those areas.”
12. “It made no sense in my view to engage in thinking in Iraq they have a nuclear weapon.”
13. “You can’t only love your country when you win.”
14. “I travel around the world, other world leaders, know what they all say, 80% of them, ‘You gotta win. My democracy is at stake.’”
15. “Then [Trump] is going to put in a 10% tax that’s going to increase average Americans’ cost $1,500 a year.”

@ArmyPeso @Bubblebathgirl @libsoftiktok Have you spoken to parents and children who have indeterminate sex identity problems? It is not as clear-cut as it appears. I agree that sex re-assignment when the sex is obvious is problematic but what happens to undermined sex identity children if a blanket ban is enforced
English

@donkerr8 @Bubblebathgirl @libsoftiktok No Don you're at the age to know this is despicable at any angle you push. You might want a paganistic government and society that runs everything but I dont
English

When they say “gender affirming care” this is what they mean. The sterilization, m*tilation, and castration of minors.
The Supreme Court ruled today that Idaho can enforce a ban on these procedures and treatments.
This is the biggest medical scandal in modern history and it must be stopped!!

English

@Bubblebathgirl @libsoftiktok Each case is different. Making blanket assersions without context is dangerous.
English

@libsoftiktok I still don’t understand how a doctor doesn’t lose their license for doing this to patients of any age, let alone minors.
This elective procedure is clearly mųtilation and goes against the basic “do no harm” premise of being a doctor.
At least Idaho won’t allow it for kids.
