Did you know that miracles happened during filming of the Passion of the Christ?
Mel Gibson, a giant of the screen, made a choice that would cost him everything.
He poured in $30 million of his own fortune, built his own production company, and shouldered the cross himself.
He knew this would be no ordinary film. This would be war.
When it came time to cast Christ, Mel called Jim Caviezel, a faithful Catholic actor.
But before the offer was made, he warned him:
>“If you do this, you will be rejected by Hollywood.”
Jim went silent. He took a day to pray. Then came the call:
>“We have to make it. I’m 33 years old. My initials are J.C.”
Mel paused, then answered:
>“You’re scaring me.”
And hung up.
Then came the shoot and it was unlike anything Hollywood had ever seen.
Jim Caviezel stepped into the role of Christ and walked a path not just of acting, but of suffering.
> He lost 45 pounds.
> Was struck by lightning not once, but twice.
One of the lightning strikes hit him during the Sermon on the Mount scene, while cameras were rolling.
A bright flash, an explosion of divine silence,
and Caviezel stood stunned, unharmed, as the sky thundered.
> He was accidentally whipped during scourging scenes, leaving him with a 14-inch scar, real blood spilled for a film about divine blood.
> His shoulder dislocated while carrying the Cross.
> He hung exposed in freezing conditions, battling pneumonia and hypothermia.
> Filming the crucifixion alone took 5 weeks of agony.
> After filming, the toll on his heart was so severe, he underwent two open-heart surgeries the scars of Gethsemane etched in flesh.
And yet, through it all, Jim’s aim was clear:
> “I didn’t want people to see me. I wanted them to see Jesus. Conversions will happen through that.”
And they did. In numbers that stunned the world.
Pedro Sarubbi, who played Barabbas, said of Caviezel’s eyes during filming:
> “They had no hatred, only mercy and love.”
Pedro converted to Christianity.
Luca Lionello, the actor who portrayed Judas,
an atheist, was baptized after filming.
He baptized his own children with him.
A Muslim technician watched the filming in awe,
and gave his life to Christ on set.
And then came the wave.
Audiences around the world wept in theaters. Families returned to the faith. Hearts of stone became flesh. Confessions surged. Conversions multiplied.
From prison cells to palaces, from pews to film sets, lives changed.
The world said it would fail. But God had other plans.
The Passion of the Christ grossed $611 million worldwide. It became the highest-grossing R-rated film in history.
But more than that, it became a weapon of grace.
It brought Christ’s suffering into a world drowning in comfort.
It pierced through indifference. It reminded mankind that Love bleeds, suffers, and dies to save.

Passion of The Christ🇻🇦🩸
“Mel Gibson warned actor Jim Caviezel that playing the character of Christ was going to be very difficult and that if he accepted, he most likely would be marginalized by Hollywood.
Caviezel asked for a day to think about it and his response to Mel who was funding and directing the movie was: "I think we have to make it, even if it is difficult." And something else, my initials are J.C., and I am 33 years old. "I didn't realize that until now."
Mel responded with “You're really scaring me you know.”
During filming, Jim Caviezel who plays the part of Jesus lost 45 pounds, he was struck by lightning, he was accidentally struck twice during the scourging scene leaving a deep 14-inch scar, he dislocated his shoulder when the cross was dropped into the hole with him on the cross. He then suffered pneumonia and hypothermia from being nearly naked with only a loin cloth on the cross for endless hours. The crucifixion scene alone took 5 weeks of the 2 months of shooting.
His body was so stressed and exhausted from playing the role that he had to undergo two open heart surgeries after the filming production.
Jim explained, “I didn’t want people to see me. I just want them to see Jesus. Conversions will happen through that.”
Almost like a clairvoyant prediction many amazing things happened.
Pedro Sarubbi, who played Barabbas, felt that it was not Caviezel who was looking at him, but Jesus Christ himself, as he played that role he said of Caviezel, “His eyes had no hatred or resentment towards me, only mercy and love."
Luca Lionello, the artist who played Judas, was an avowed atheist before shooting began. He eventually converted, and baptized his children.
One of the main technicians working on the film was a Muslim converted to Christianity.
Some producers said they saw actors dressed in white they didn’t recognize during one of the filming sessions, and when they reviewed the recordings they realized they couldn’t see them in that footage.
The Passion of the Christ is the highest grossing US religious as well as the highest R-rated film of all time, with $370.8 million! Worldwide, it grossed $611 million.
More importantly, it has reached 100’s of millions of people around the world.
Mel Gibson paid $30 million out of his own pocket for the production of the film because no studio would take on the project.
Today Jim Caviezel simply and boldly proclaims his faith in Christ, and the miracle it was for him to represent Christ as an actor and a greater believer of Christ because of this experience.

No thought about the workers in the hotel being without a job… no thought about the farmers , distributors and other people who the hotel would purchase items from… no thought as to what hotel would want to come here if it is a big name like ‘HILTON’ leaves…

“At the age of 52, I am finally holding my own twin boys in my arms. For 18 years, people called me an “Empty House,” but look at me now.
I watched my younger sisters get married, carry their babies, and even bring those children to my house to eat my food. My husband’s family started whispering behind my back. They told him to find a “fertile woman” because, at age 50, they said I was “useless” and that my womb was a “dry well.”
After nearly two decades of marriage, the silence in our home became heavier than a mountain. Every month, I would cry behind the kitchen door until my wrapper was soaked with tears, wondering if God had forgotten my address.
Last year, I almost gave up. I told my husband to let me go back to my father’s house so he could marry someone else. But he held my hand and said, “Nneka, let us wait for God’s time.”
But God is not a man.
At age 51, when the world said it was medically impossible and the neighbors had finished laughing, I conceived. And yesterday, at age 52, the “Empty House” finally became a home. I gave birth to a beautiful set of twin boys.
I am sharing this because I know someone reading this feels like their time has passed. You feel like the world is mocking your delay.
But I am living proof:
if God can remember me at 52 and give me double for my trouble, He can turn your “nothing” into a great celebration.

To my Christian brothers and sister of all denominations – we need to make this the highest grossing film of all time.

Mel Gibson spent 7 years writing the sequel to The Passion of the Christ, with help from theologians and historians to ensure biblical/historical accuracy.
Filming began in August 2025 in Italy.
This is the most ambitious Christian film ever made.
