@bcardarella @yordisprieto Definitely. Having been active in other communities, it is disappointing how few people will contribute compared to number of filks asking for (and at times demanding) changes and support.

@yordisprieto I've more or less came around to the same conclusion. I'm sad about it because I've been such a huge advocate for OSS but there is something off in the Elixir community. It is way too many takers, not enough givers. It's a big problem.

#MyElixirStatus After nearly a decade of free and open-source work in the Elixir ecosystem, only once—maybe twice—has an Elixir shop actually valued my open-source contributions. Instead, I’m asked to build tic-tac-toe LeetCode or complete take-home assessments on Phoenix, Ecto, Oban, and, to top it off, basic HTTP calls (for fuck’s sake). Meanwhile, I’ve effectively maintain or contribute to Guardian, Tesla, Ueberauth, OTEL, Ecto, ExDoc and many other packages (far too many to be honest). I spent countless hours helping in Slack. Because those Elixir companies didn’t support me when I needed it, here’s the bottom line is the following. I’ll support FOSS on my terms. Either have your company compensate me for my time. Or, better yet, change your hiring practices and publicly commit to it. Otherwise, fix it yourself, or fork it and maintain it yourself. Enough is enough! I will contribute to open source out of love, but I am not gonna forget neither.

@kodingwarrior We used Elixir + Lua to build an event driven billing system which enabled analysts to write complex billing and pricing logic in Lua with the aid of LLMs, no engineering resources required! It works beautifully at scale.

So... my contract gigs will end in a few days. I’m now looking for a job! 🤓 - Principal engineer, backend/systems/arch focus - Fully remote, flexible hours (hard to find ppl in the same tz), pref async work - @elixirlang is def my strength, but I just love doing stuff

@peregrine They offer a virtual program to quit I could easily lie about doing and save $900 but I’m not trying to lie to an employer with more resources than god compared to me lol

A reminder that many of the great ideas that just made their way to LiveView, including if/for expressions, heex formatter, live storybook, etc all originated as working ideas in @SurfaceUi As much as im excited about the new LV, @MarlusSaraiva deserves more credit

LiveView 0.18 ships with syntactic sugar for if and for. I think a lot of ppl will miss this as it is not announced in the blog post. It greatly increases readability. #myelixirstatus

Anyone have recommendations for OpenAPI / Swagger integration with @elixirphoenix? There's a few libraries out there, curious what the community likes

@itsaydrian @nerdy_btkostner I need to dramatically overhaul elixir-companies.com to be more aesthetically pleasing and require less work day-to-day (approving content). When I find time for that we should talk, that could be a great opportunity to team up! @yburyug you should help!

@doomspork @nerdy_btkostner Okay. Just curious how many are affected by that part as well. We are working on a small post to show how you could migrate to our free Serverless offering which is much more generous than that add-on.

@davydog187 @nerdy_btkostner @sb_engineers Thanks for sharing this! I watched the video but I'd love to pick your brain some more on this just to get a different take. I'm more of a Protobuf fan myself but we've been working with Avro recently.

Are you using Avro or Protobuf in your Elixir services? Are you using them with systems like Kafka, Rabbit, or others? Curious to hear thoughts from others on how they arrived at one versus the other. #MyElixirStatus #opensource
