Israeli soldiers beat and tortured flotilla organisers Saif Abukeshek and Thiago Ávila after abducting them in international waters near Greece in the early hours of Thursday morning, lawyers and diplomats have said. After illegally intercepting 22 boats and kidnapping around 200 activists hundreds of miles from Gaza, Israel transferred the majority to Greek authorities, but refused to release Abukeshek and Ávila. Instead, it transported them back to an Israeli desert prison, where Palestinians are routinely tortured. Brazilian activist Ávila was dragged face-down across the floor and beaten so badly he passed out twice, lawyers said, after visiting him on Saturday. His wife, Lara Souza, said an embassy official told her he had been temporarily blinded by his injuries, with his left eye still swollen shut, but he was being denied medical treatment. In a brief visit, where he was separated from the consul by a glass screen and not able to speak freely, he reported pain all over his body, especially in his hand and shoulder, and said that soldiers had threatened to throw him overboard and target his wife and two-year-old daughter. Abukeshek, who had been sailing on an observer boat and did not intend to go to Gaza, was “in shock”, his wife Sally Issa said. He was forced to lie face-down on the floor of an Israeli warship for two days, lawyers said, blindfolded and with his hands bound behind his back. Spain has demanded Israel release Abukeshek, who is Palestinian but holds Spanish and Swedish citizenship. On Friday, prime minister Pedro Sánchez said he had been "illegally abducted by the Netanyahu government". On Sunday, the activists appeared before an Israeli court, where a judge extended their detention by two days. Lawyers demanded their immediate and unconditional release, telling the court the entire process was "fundamentally flawed and illegal", and describing Israel's actions as a "retaliatory measure against humanitarian activist leaders". The two men have now been transferred back to solitary confinement in Shikma prison, where they are being held in windowless cells. Both are on hunger strike, with Ávila saying he will not leave without Abukeshek.

In Gaza… the story wasn’t always one of tents and siege.
Back in the 1980s, this land produced more than it needed. Over 100,000 tons of Shamouti citrus, another 100,000 tons of Valencia oranges, and tens of thousands of tons of lemons were harvested from groves full of life. Clementines and “French” citrus varieties weren’t just local staples—they represented self-sufficiency, with surplus exported to the Gulf and Iran via Jordan, and onward to Europe and the Balkans.
Even what was squeezed had its path. Citrus juice was supplied to processing plants, more than 200 tons of guava were exported to Jordan, and over 100 trucks of vegetables crossed out daily. Gaza’s strawberries reached European markets, and its natural roses carried the name of Gaza abroad. Along the coast, the sea was generous fish were abundant, sardines were exported, and marine life sustained rather than depleted livelihoods.
Then everything changed…
Water theft began eroding the roots of the groves, until they largely disappeared by the early 1990s. From 2000 onward, vegetable exports declined, and by 2007, exports of flowers and strawberries had come to a halt. Today, barely a single ton is allowed out. Gaza, once a provider, now struggles to feed itself.
Even its buried wealth gas and oil remains out of reach, never benefiting its people.
And yet, the story hasn’t broken.
This land, described as blessed, still grows resilience. Its people despite wars and devastation remain standing, writing their survival every single day.

He went alone toward the trucks to obtain a 25-kilogram bag of flour a weight far beyond his physical capacity yet he did not hesitate for a moment in his effort to secure food for his family.
The images reveal the depth of suffering: from trying to hold the bag tightly, to lifting it with great strain, to walking with heavy, burdened steps under its weight. This scene is a cry in the face of a world whose silence is being counted on, while starvation continues under the cover of agreements that have failed to stop the suffering.

BREAKING: The Israeli naval vessel that abducted the 180 Sumud Flotilla crews off the coast of Crete (an act of piracy and a gross violation of the Law of the Sea) is intend on victimising two of them: Saif Abukeshek, a Spanish citizen of Palestinian origin, and Thiago Ávila, a Brazilian citizen who has distinguished himself with repeated attempts to break the illegal, genocidal, Israeli blockage of Gaza.
Unlike the remaining abducted members of the Sumud Flotilla crew, which the Israeli navy disembarked in Crete, Saif and Thiago are detained and bound for an Israeli prison. This is a double violation of International Law: First, Israel abducted them illegally at sea. Second, Israel is now transporting them, violently, illegally, to one of its notorious prisons.
Meanwhile, the Greek government is cooperating fully in Israel’s criminal behaviour, effectively surrendering its search and rescue obligations and conniving with Israel to victimise the brave crews of the Sumud Flotilla who are steadfastly, through their activism, defending International Law as well as the verdict of the International Court of Justice which has clearly and unequivocally declared Israel’s continued naval blockade of Gaza and its occupation of the Palestinian territories illegal.
Through their complicity and their silence, the Greek government, the European Union, the mainstream media, the West more generally, are flouting, indeed they are trashing, their supposed, much publicised, ‘Western values’. Let us all demand:
· The immediate release of Saif and Thiago
· An end to Israel’s criminal behaviour in international waters
· The termination of Israel’s illegal Gaza blockade
· That the Greek government and the European Union cease and desist from lending logistical and moral support to Israel’s genocide in Gaza and its ethnic cleansing campaigns in E. Jerusalem and the West Bank

🇲🇽🇺🇸 EXPOSED: Sheinbaum is learning the price of appeasing Trump. She has made repeated concessions on border security, deploying thousands of National Guard troops. Concessions on trade. Concessions on cartel crackdowns. All to avoid tariffs and direct confrontation.
Trump keeps demanding more. Now he is discussing possible US military action against Mexican cartels. The price of appeasement is not peace. It is endless demand.
The Chihuahua incident made things worse. Two CIA agents died during an unauthorized anti narcotics raid. The Mexican government was not informed. Not authorized. The agents were wearing Chihuahua state police uniforms. A direct violation of sovereignty.
Sheinbaum is trapped. Protect sovereignty and risk economic war. Appease Trump and lose her leftist base. Her restrained response has already drawn criticism from Morena loyalists at home.
The Wall Street Journal documented it all. This is a difficult balancing act. But the lesson is clear. Appeasement does not work. Trump does not respect concessions. He only respects those who do not bend.
Mexico is learning that now. The rest of the Global South should watch closely.
