I was at a workshop yesterday and asked several technologists and economists who had predicted large job market losses from AI model improvement whether they are surprised about this. Models after all have improved in some ways *more* than projections. Most said “yes”, some are indeed very surprised. I do think disruption is likely coming, but it is not at all obvious that it will look like mass unemployment.

@darrenpjones This AI project would take 5 minutes to prototype a truly bespoke solution. A sensible workflow would be a virtual meeting (e.g. Google Meet) where you perform your interview. The transcript is then imported into a LLM to fill out the document (or database).

We sent a forward-deployed AI engineer to prison. He’s not a criminal - he’s been creating tools that are massively saving staff time, making things safer for everyone. Now they’re being rolled out across the Prison Service. This is exactly the type of work the No10 Innovation Fellows were designed to deliver - helping us to move fast and fix things.

Why on earth did OpenAI just destroy the massive amount of trust and goodwill that they built up with devs by deleting the Codex brand? I could potentially make sense of it it because they're trying to skate where the puck is headed: "all information work is going to be done from one home base". They obviously need that home base to be ChatGPT and it's a *logical* thing to do. The Codex team should have stood up and fought hard against this and said that dev goodwill is something that they can't negotiate on. The dropdown "ChatGPT Codex" vs "ChatGPT Work" says it all. So if we're writing code, we're not working?
