@CahairOKane1 There's width in every one of them attacks if you watch closely, which stretched Donegal zonal defence on the Arch

Almost every team’s attacking plan is about two things – width and depth. Monaghan did the complete opposite. They loaded the arc with bodies and rather than having them standing as dummies, they actually utilised them

Monaghan’s first half on Saturday was one of the best tactical displays we’ve seen in Croke Park for quite a while. Short thread on how they pulled Donegal’s defence around the place and created so many shots from positions where Donegal do not let you shoot from 🧵

Here’s why teachers often turn out to be good coaches: Week after week they organise and work with hundreds of students. They must constantly devise and implement different strategies to help learning and sustain interest. No other job relates to coaching quite like it. Agree?

@movementcoachkm All very petty from them by the sounds of it, Kev. A lot of people like yourself, producing good content and promoting the games, and I find it difficult to understand. It's not like these accounts are in any way a competitor.

I’ve had a serious amount of people contact me about this. All I can say is, Jesus!! Amazing nonsense going on. The GAA and their lawyers appear to have completely over stepped the mark and seem to be heading into bullying and harassment. I know from talking to one person who got solicitors involved, they believe it’s straight up illegal what the GAA or their representatives are at. As I said below it’s quite a hazy area, but their legal advice varied from “completely ignore that nonsense” to “I can’t believe a solicitor put that down on paper” RTE are also involved, in some cases it has been RTE that contacted someone who had shared bits of contact. Not only is this morally questionable considering the community aspect, it’s also highly questionable legally. There is no doubt they are trying to bully people. Some people have already had their Instagrams reinstated , and tbh that says a lot.
Kevin Mulcahy@movementcoachkm

The GAA have gone after people sharing coaching content @noplanb is gone, and they seem to have contacted others to not post. And have been on a campaign to stop people using the term “GAA” Bananas stuff. They may have legal right to do that, it’s grey enough with money they receive from EU and government. And this is very typical of the GAA. They are always talking a big game and trying to scare people and bully them, especially round financial questions. But they have no right to stop anyone sharing free to air content. I’ve gotten legal advise on that But outside of any of that, Community association my arse. Croke Park and GAA administration is a corporation and acting as so. Gaelic Games on the ground is a true phenomenon and weekly I see the good it does and interact with the great people working for their communities in it. Croke Park is completely disconnected from that. More and more so every day

@movementcoachkm You will leave a keeper, kick it 60 yards to a big man in your half, and you will let him have it and not contest? Or am I reading that wrong?

Rich get richer Poor get poorer All the signs are there already. It’s very obvious in club game This was always about Kerry and Dublin. Always. Whether sub conscious or not, it was. The rhetoric down here from the Kerry folk has always been “we’ll knock a few AI’s out of Clifford with these rules” The new KO rule is a massive negative. If I’m coaching a team against a massive opponent good in the air we’ll just leave him have it. Hardly the contests they wanted This Armagh Kerry game is actually shit enough, and a glimpse (accept Armagh clearly don’t care) of some of the future. In the additional tweet below I give a small bit of research I did on last 10 years of AFL changes. Slow, deliberate and isolated.
Stephen O'Meara@somearagaa

Before we throw in at Armagh v Kerry, a couple of issues I still foresee with FRC amendment Phase 2, that I'll come back to again The new 3v3 rules may alleviate some refereeing and game management issues initially, but will create more long term as teams tactically work around them - as well as some obscure and absurd tactics (which "traditionalists" will hate) Losing long kick-outs will become almost undefendable with the new mark rule and scores off them will sky-rocket compared to previously There'll still be less kicking than 2024, though probably more than Phase 1 2025 The 40 metre 2-point arc will still evolve to making a new sport, though probably not initially/immediately - with all sorts of tactical deviations created by it Starting at the top level and increasing the further away from it we go, bad refereeing calls on difficult interpretations is going to become consistent and will fuel real resentment from players and managers towards officials and the association as results of important games are consistently tipped by incorrect calls or dubious interpretations, far more complex than anything which has existed before A dynamic rather than an objection - the gap between teams will rise drastically. Nobody will get near the top teams as a) raw athleticism and B) ability will come to the fore over tactics. Expect Ulster's success to plummet

Dublin footballers went 36 competitive games unbeaten, 45 championship games unbeaten, won 9 All-Irelands in 12 years and won 6 All-Irelands in a row. On top of 14 successive Leinster titles since 2011.

In the history of the GAA, 7 male county teams have won 4 All-Irelands in a row. Just 1 has managed to win 5. Fact Dublin made history in 2019, despite playing with 14 men for the majority of the first game, makes them the greatest team of all time in either code, in my view.

The most important thing for @LFC in 2025 is winning the #PremierLeague No one’s contract or future should come in the way of that! I love Trent as a lad & a player, but his team would’ve told Real Madrid to bid & also would’ve known LFC would turn it down. It’s to try & cover themselves when he leaves for free. Again it’s something the club/fans don’t need with a huge game coming up.

@movementcoachkm Character, enthusiasm, and buy-in are some of the most important characteristics to any decent team, and from what I have seen, he has buy-in from the group in spades. Training couldn't be that bad as you wouldn't get buy-in from the modern player if it was.

One may question the methods of training and everything else. I don’t think it is good for team preparation that he has been successful in this way. But…. I personally was wrong about how much he could build a team through character and enthusiasm. It’s very clear they were “all in”. Which is crucial. Definitely a win against the head. It’s a great league.

Taking my own experience in 3x3 Basketball and the Olympic feel to Gaelic Football. 5x5 last night. 1. If you retrieve the ball in play (turnover) you just work it outside the zone before you can score 2. 3 points for a point out side the zone If you 3. Points and goals inside as normal What I observed, without any instruction; - man on man defending - lots of finding separation, loop runs, deep runs - lots of outside shots But while I was using this for repetitive shooting & defending practice, we should be looking at variations of the game at all ages. It is not going to detract from the main Championships. Variants of the sports are crucial for the development and longevity. The GAA are looking for things to put before all Irelands. Why couldn’t you have open competitions of 5x5 or 7’s or other variations that people who don’t want to fully commit to the very challenging modern pursuit of Senior Hurling/Football can do.

@GarBreeninho Ger everyone with half a brain can see the benefits of playing many sports, I'd include combat sports in that also. My own son plays soccer, hurling and gaelic football. But there comes an age if you're at a top level you may have to prioritise one sport over the other.
