I agree, the weight of evidence is determined by the beholder. I would argue also that the amount of (favorable) evidence is often overlooked by non-believers though (similar to how unfavorable evidence is often discounted by believers). The search for truth is often an exercise in overcoming our blind spots

@doubt_thomas729 I suppose the weight of evidence is in the eye of the beholder. None of us get to choose what convinces us one way or the other.

To my LDS friends, I will never unfollow you solely for who you support politically. I may spar over ideas with you. I may call out idiotic behavior. I'll only unfollow you if you're an unhinged crackhead. (Also, I never bow down to anyone but Jesus.) Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Nick 🇺🇸@nickfromnorwood

To my LDS friends, if you support Trump or the MAGA movement, you will be unfollowed without warning. I will no longer bow down to anybody who is LDS and still supports Trump or the MAGA movement. A real Latter Day Saint would support the Democratic Party.

@tscottme @DavidLimbaugh That would be more accurate than polytheistic. I think most members would consider our beliefs more like practical monotheism, but that's more a discussion of ontology vs practice

@PearlKevinPrice I understand what you mean, but I think you're being a bit dismissive of the favorable evidence. There is a fairly significant amount of favorable evidence

@doubt_thomas729 I lost my faith in Mormonism after discovering revisions to the revelations of the D&C. There might be “other evidence” that supports it being inspired but from my perspective, a small amount of favorable evidence doesn’t carry more weight than the evidence in opposition.

@surskitmaxxing If we're talking about the statistics, they seem to suggest that for whatever reason, LDS have better outcomes. The reason for that is open to discussion for sure

@doubt_thomas729 I think it’s wildly presumptive to assume that that is what’s happening with statistical religious outcomes Does Scientology make its members rich? Or do they tend to recruit rich members?

@DavidLimbaugh Just watched a video correcting a dishonest LDS apologist who used Heiser's work to support polytheism of LDS. Heiser video used by the LDS FOR polytheism specifically excludes LDS view. English is limited by the word it uses, but Judeo-Christian mono-theism is Heiser's view.

@DavidLimbaugh He has an interesting paper about polytheism and monotheism in the Bible (and how they're the wrong terms). From what little I know, he's definitely not a polytheist

I've looked through your feed and it's fairly typical anti-LDS rhetoric, things I've seen pretty regularly on this app especially. I've been a member of this church for a long time, and I've had to confront these arguments many times. I try to take a balanced approach by looking at both sides of the argument. Based on the arguments I've seen you make, I don't think you give any consideration to our side of the argument

This is quite an aside from my usual posts, but I feel it necessary. The sudden surge of "Christians" attacking Michael Heiser here on X is, at best, ignorant and misguided, and at worst, hateful and anti-Biblical. His works are scholarly and intriguing, not altering the Gospel, but adding (or rather, recovering) another aspect of it that deepens and enriches our love for God and His Word. (On the positive side of these new attacks, I'm finding new people to follow, those who respectfully defend the scholarship!)

@Dirtdragonmom The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is common all over and does well with families and kids. Community is a big thing, we study from the Bible, and it's a good church imo

My husband and I are beginning our hunt for a local church today, so please be praying for us! Having a church 20 miles away and in a whole different community was making it very hard to be part of the church family. Our number one concern besides strong Biblical teaching is finding one that is understanding about high energy little boys. There are at least 4 decent looking churches within 3 miles of us.
