Most colleges and universities are not proactively considering the needs of disabled and chronically ill faculty, staff, and students at this point in the pandemic and never ever will because they legally don’t have to until the people they should be considering out themselves.

Think a lot about how the wellness-technocratic framing of T1D and medical devices is about “totally reasonable to expect to live a normal life.” I would just like to confirm none of it is normal. Why would it be?

Want to be clear here this is not some call for help. It’s just a simple fact of life and how I experience it and experience diabetes. Every 48-72 hours I’m like, “Welp, I see we’re still gonna do this” because that’s explicitly what the choice is/requires. It’s explict.

I think about and share ideas about diabetes medical devices. Devices, but..was just changing my insulin pod, an every 48-72 hour occurrence, and thought about how every time I change pod for 9.5 years now the embodied feeling is one of an explicit choice to continue living.

In the vein of really human things, I was just thinking about the (now very dated) genre of the subject line for the longform email to a friend back before email was completely busted. A good subject line could make the entire email and the other person’s day.

Florida was held up as the model for Science of Reading mandates. Banned balanced literacy. Mandated structured literacy statewide.Their arrow on the national chart points left.Scores declined.The mandate didn’t save them. Thirty years in a classroom. I watched this cycle before.

Final projects are flooding in. & I am in awe once again. The AI/plagiarizing students? Outliers. Pretty much everyone else understood the assignment, took creative risks, & maintained their unique writer-voice while engaging ethically with sources. Hold the line. For them.

I think it’s funny that all the assignments have to be changed because of AI which implies professors can’t sell the value of the intellectual work the assignments ask students to do and quite possibly couldn’t sell that value before AI.

@dowellml it's hilarious ... the great AI panic of 2026 colliding with students can't read anymore panic. I keep wondering if all the academics who have been using AI in their publications & didn't check the citations are being very quiet now. That's also hilarious.

A school librarian who knows every child's name and every child's last book is doing something no algorithm can do. They are matching readers to stories. That work doesn't show up on any test. It also produces more lifelong readers than any test ever has.
