Something nobody noticed: This guy is cosplaying as a supervisor of a stream of advisee papers. Smith College does not offer an economics PhD. Miller hasn't published a peer-reviewed article outside of the Rationalist/Longtermist sphere since 2011. sophia.smith.edu/~jdmiller/resu…

@eiszett Have you read all the sources you ever cited? During my PhD we, along with dozens of other papers, cited a paper that I later found did not contain the result for which it was commonly cited. I should be banned I guess.

I tell my students that they have to use AI to help write papers. I give them guidance on how they can effectively do this. I think I'm giving them more practical help than if I forced them to write without AI. This past semester, one student even asked me if she had to use AI and I said yes.

@DarrinADurant @zenahitz I don't read the OP as being "indifferent" to hallucinated references. I'm certainly not. The issue is the magnitude of the sin. Does this existence of one hallucinated reference mean the entire paper is worthless? The OP doesn't think so. If you do, make an argument.

@khan_abe This is all of us rediscovering the fact that people in STEM are usually... well... not that good at writing.
