Virtually ignored is the historically unusual primary Benson has had. - Only the 3rd time in 66 years that a Michigan open seat candidate for governor is running away with the nomination. Benson at 72% in a recent primary poll. Dick Posthumus took 81% in 2002 over Joe Schwarz and lost to Granholm. Paul Bagwell got 99% in 1960 and lost to Swainson. - The last time in an open seat race that Michigan elected the same party as governor was that 1960 election of LG Swainson, who beat the college professor Bagwell.

As someone who's worked on campaigns around the country for free this is not abnormal for people to be paid for working 40 to 60 hours a week as contractors. I've never taken a single dime from a candidate and I don't judge those who do because they are dedicating a lot of time while also working their regular jobs.
