@minordissent As a born & raised Latin who lived in SF and now am back in Panama, this is the sad reality we live in. The system basically pushes you to defect (or join the underground system). So most end up being extremely hedonistic. Founding is the only way through.

There's an unfortunate game theory to a large civilization in that it requires hard work, ethical behavior, and deferral of gratification to build. But then eventually people start to forget that and think "why would I work hard when theres all this stuff here already? I should just be hedonistic". Slowly, the civilization starts to decay causing it to take care of people less, which causes more people to defect ("why should I take care of a system that doesn't care for me? Especially when there's so much fun to be had by neglecting it"), until eventually it collapses because everyone has defected.

We’re on the verge of interactive, real-time, photorealistic video generation with what are called World Models. These require a fair amount of expensive compute, but costs will come down over time. Today, these interactions are essentially real-time dreams. They lack the persistence and shared logic that turns a video into a multiplayer game. Or concert. Or classroom. Or the holodeck. We believe the ultimate architecture for gaming (and the holodeck) is Roblox Reality. It’s a hybrid architecture that marries the structured data and logic of the Roblox Engine and Roblox Cloud with the generative power of Video World Models. The Roblox Engine provides the underlying synchronized ground truth—the score, physics, multiplayer sync, etc.—while our video model acts as a Super Upsampler to layer on photorealistic detail. We believe this will ultimately remove barriers to high-fidelity creation, allowing a team of three people to build a narrative-driven, photorealistic masterpiece in a single week. This is an early look at turning solitary AI dreams into a social, playable reality. about.roblox.com/newsroom/2026/…

@aakashgupta Man, grinding League during beta and playing against @TSM on an ESL cup from Panama is one of my proudest feats lol I was the only one with a positive KDA using Ezreal - 2:1 after they crushed us, but still ha This definitely shapes your brain in ways we cannot fathom yet, imo.

68 college students played video games an hour a day for 30 weeks. They got measurably smarter. EEG brain scans confirmed it. The setup was simple. Half the group played League of Legends, an action game. The other half played Legends of the Three Kingdoms, a strategy card game. Same hours, same schedule, no gaming experience for anyone going in. Both groups improved on attention, working memory, and executive function. The League group's gains were significantly larger in spatial attention and spatial working memory. The benefits were still measurable 10 weeks after the gaming stopped. None of this is new. Daphne Bavelier's lab at the University of Geneva has been replicating this finding since the early 2000s. Her 2018 meta-analysis in Psychological Bulletin pulled data from 8,970 participants across 15 years and found the same thing. Action games train attentional control, a brain skill that transfers to other tasks. Strategy games train deliberation, which mostly stays inside the strategy game. The mechanism is the counterintuitive part. Action games train your brain by giving you no time to think. The brain can't deliberate. League of Legends throws 9 champions, hundreds of minions, dozens of abilities, mana, cooldowns, and map state at you, all updating in milliseconds. The brain learns to perceive faster instead. That perceptual speed transfers to anything else that demands the same skill. Including surgery. The 2007 Rosser study in Archives of Surgery found that laparoscopic surgeons who played video games more than 3 hours a week made 37% fewer errors, completed procedures 27% faster, and scored 42% higher on overall performance. The top third of gamers made 47% fewer errors. Laparoscopic surgery is a 2D screen with distorted depth perception, remote-controlled instruments, and multiple data streams updating in real time. The cognitive profile is almost identical to an action video game. The 10-week persistence is the part that should change how this gets discussed. If the gains were just from practicing the game, they would have disappeared the moment the students stopped playing. They didn't. The 30 weeks rewired the perceptual system, and the rewiring stayed.

Dudes will go autistically deep into the AI supply chain to find some alpha instead of going to therapy
bubble boi@bubbleboi

You think the AI bottleneck is HBM. You think it’s CoWoS. You think it’s GB200 cables or 800G optics or the Arizona power grid. You are looking at the wrong layer of the stack…. The REAL bottleneck is epoxy resin paste. Specifically, Liquid Compression Molding compound EME-G, a goopy, beige, photosensitive thermosetting resin that gets squeegeed onto HBM stacks before the mold press comes down and cures it. Without this paste, the silicon dies in an HBM stack delaminate, the TSVs crack, and your $40,000 GPU becomes an expensive paperweight. Sumitomo Bakelite (4203.T) makes roughly 90% of the world’s supply. The other 10% is split between Nagase ChemteX and Hitachi Chemical, both of whom buy precursor chemicals from Sumitomo Bakelite. The moat is vertical. The resin formulation is a trade secret developed over 38 years of iteration. It contains a specific ratio of silica filler to bisphenol-F epoxy with a coefficient of thermal expansion tuned to within 0.3 ppm/°C of silicon. Get the ratio wrong by 2% and the HBM stack warps during reflow. Samsung tried to qualify a domestic Korean alternative in 2022. They failed. SK hynix tried in 2023. They failed. Micron didn’t even try. Sumitomo Bakelite ships approximately $180M of EME-G annually at a gross margin of 74%. Each HBM stack consumes roughly $6 of resin. As Nvidia’s roadmap points to more and more HBM stacks the math is clear. Feynman GPU package has 8 HBM stacks. That’s $48 of Sumitomo Bakelite content in a $70,000 GPU. They are 0.07% of the BOM and 100% of the bottleneck. This is the most asymmetric pricing power in the entire AI supply chain and they are charging like it’s commodity epoxy because the company is run by Japanese chemical engineers who think 8% annual price increases are aggressive. In Q3 of 2026 the Nvidia Rubin Ultra ramp is scheduled and will trigger an EME-G shortage. Sumitomo Bakelite will have to raises prices 35%. The stock will get re-rated from “specialty chemicals” to “AI infrastructure.” Multiple expansion from 14× P/E to 38× P/E. It’s a three-bagger in 18 months and the stock is up >3% YTD.

I say this as someone on the side of progress and technology: one of the best things you can do for your cognitive well-being is to resist all attempts by the tendrils of short-form video to invade your attentional space. Don't watch them at all! Even on twitter!
Jeremiah Johnson 🌐@JeremiahDJohns

Frankly, they're not just replacing reading with vertical video slop. They're replacing EVERYTHING with vertical video. Streaming, gaming, IRL interactions, all of it is being swallowed by vertical shortform video.
