The sequencing of our midfield recruitment feels entirely backward. If Mateus Fernandes and Baleba are missing the World Cup, and we already know Anderson is unlikely to join, why hasn’t the club prioritized signing them first over Éderson?
I’m convinced that if INEOS had wrapped up two marquee midfielders first, people would’ve been far less concerned about Éderson joining as a depth option.

What INEOS do this window will tell me everything I need to know about them going forward. Everyone knows what we need especially in midfield. That is one area where they cannot afford to make mistakes. We need two marquee signings in that Midfield at the very least. Sir Alex Ferguson will probably always win the argument as the Premier League’s greatest manager thanks to that longevity and the extra silverware which came with it.
But Pep Guardiola is surely the most transformative, owing to the way his style, and variations on it, has been adopted across the nation from grassroots to top flight.
