@shedseven Watching it now! Thank you for being so brilliant - the world is a hard place to be in right now - but your music brings me so much joy! It’s such a wonderful thing to watch and listen to you and my heart still smile ❤️

My good people, I am ready to share one of the good news, that I have been sitting on. I have been awarded an Honorary Doctorate my good people. The award, which I have just heard has been confirmed is mainly for my contributions to analytic thinking/theorisation of race. It is all I am happy to share for now. As I am still digesting what that means for me as someone who comes from the streets, who used to have herds of people (mainly white middle class women) sneer at me because I used (big) words & challenged things/ideas, something, I was not presumably supposed to, apparently. And as someone too who has not always been treated fairly in academia, like so many black scholars/students who exit before it is their time to exit, because the space is so violent. So here we are. People say I am rebellious, of course I am. How do you think I survived low expectations and societal contempt? It was my African mother who corrected everyone who called me beautiful as a child and defiantly stated she’s ‘une intellectuelle’ as a retort to allow me to be other things. And who was also the first to note, I like to think. So…Use big words. Challenge ideas. Thinking belongs to everyone. Theory belongs to everyone contrary to what some seem to believe…. I am grateful. That is all.

Dear friends, Happy New Year. In these uncertain and challenging times, Sirry @ProfAlang and I know it’s more important than ever to live in the moment and hold our loved ones close. So, we surprised our annual NYE party guests with a wedding. We are now legally married❤️❤️❤️

Chadwick, the favorite nephew
My sister passed away this afternoon. She was a fighter & fought cancer with everything she had, to say I’m proud of her is an understatement. Back in February the doctors gave her only a few hours to live but she beat the odds & even made it to her 24th bday. Love you sis ❤️

Well, it’s official: I have been promoted to full Professor @ucl I am well aware of what this means; that as a Black Woman I am one of a few. To the students over the years who told me it meant the world to see me at the front of a room- I am still here.

@yungdeadthing I recently travelled to Nigeria and had these two (favourite reads) in my hand luggage. I was asked, “are you the author?” I could only wish to have an ounce of the talent that penned these two brilliant books - 8th (!) book? I’m going to have to get online and part with some £

@orlaghmccabe @ManMetUTA I was really sad to miss this. I listened to a keynote on the future of universities that she did when I was at Leeds - she was so great (I remembering “borrowing” her ‘have I got news for you’ approach to creating engagement in her slides). I am sure her keynote was fab 🙏🏾
