Joking about rape in this way as a girl dad is really messed up. As a SA survivor of white men, I would be disgusted if my father was talking like this. Have some more respect.

Don’t ever be fooled into thinking academia, psychology or our professional industries are less misogynistic or less classist than anywhere else. Attitudinal studies demonstrate that professionals are just as likely to be racist, misogynistic, homophobic, victim blamers, accept rape myths etc. Nothing I have achieved or done for myself or others has lessened the misogyny or classism (or homophobia actually) towards me. I think people believe that certain areas of society are inherently ‘better’ than others, or have better values or are kinder, or nicer. But lemme tell you, I have moved through many different sections of society and the middle and upper classes are NOT any nicer or better than us. The only difference (IMO) is that they tend to be more underhand, smarter and more careful with their wrongdoing, abuse, and bullying of others, they tend to go for your livelihood and reputation, more likely to use smear campaigns, and manipulation. I don’t fit in anywhere anymore, and I’m relieved to be honest! If you need me, I’m sat on my own somewhere reading a book and eating crisps, marra.

One of the greatest wins for an abuser is to get others to punish/abuse their victim for them. #perpetrator101
