I keep thinking about how hard it used to be to build something on chain.

Users generally want privacy that is easy to understand and adjustable depending on the situation, rather than maximum privacy. @0xMiden shared a detailed article from a lab called Privacy and Scaling Explorations, which does some good research.
According to the report, users want:
An interface where they can easily understand what they are doing.
Not accidentally or necessarily putting all their assets into fully private mode.
The ability to make one transaction public and the next private if necessary.
Miden is designed to meet this need. In other words, privacy in Miden isn't a single mode. Users can make some transactions completely private, some partially visible, and some completely public.
These controls in Miden are designed to be adjustable at the wallet level, account level, or transaction level.
Large companies have a great need for privacy, yes. But end users and large companies don't need, and probably wouldn't prefer, a 100% private transaction mechanism. Miden is not built with the goal of being the most private, but rather as a tool to be private.
It's like being able to turn off the car lights on a dark road and continue driving with only the night vision dashcam on.
