Personal news: I was a part of a talented team that just received a Lone Star Emmy nomination. Folks in our department have won dozens of these awards over the years. They are ninjas at what they do. Sure, I hope we win this one as well. But just the nomination feels good.

Djokovic won 3 Grand Slams in 2023 at the age of 36. The last time Federer won 3 Grand Slams in a year was 2007 at the age of 26. The last time Nadal won 3 Grand Slams in a year was 2010 at the age of 24. The last time Sinner or Alcaraz won 3 Grand Slams in a year? Never. Just a reminder of how fortunate we are to witness such greatness. 🐐

@SportsSturm We agree to disagree He described what 200K have described and said he asked for a review We took it as you think this is the sole reason FIFA overturned the red card. Infantino offered his response here: pbs.org/newshour/natio…

@drano21 He literally said it all, amigo.
Acyn@Acyn

Reporter: Can you describe your phone call with Gianni Infantino about the red card? Belgium is appealing the decision. Trump: You’re asking me about the whole soccer thing. So, yeah, I did. I spoke to Gianni. That wasn’t a foul. That wasn’t even an infraction. That was two guys running full speed who happened to crash into each other. You can’t properly place your foot on somebody else’s foot when you’re going full speed. No, these were two great athletes who got tangled up. And this referee, who is a little bit suspect—if you check his past. I don’t want to say that because I don’t like to create controversy, but very suspect. If you’d like, I’ll provide you with his past. He didn’t do anything wrong, and he’s our best player, or one of our best players—a very vital player—and they gave him a red card. I didn’t know what that meant. I didn’t think it meant much. Then I started hearing that it means you can’t play in the next game, at least in the next game. I said, “Boy, that’s a big—” You know, if it happened to another player, it would have been unfair, but when they take your best player—or just about; they have some great players—and say you can’t play, that’s very unfair. That’s one thing, to penalize somebody for the game. But how do you penalize them for a game that hasn’t been played yet? It’s very unfair. You can’t do that. So, yes, I asked for a review by FIFA. I spoke to a man who is highly respected, and by the way, whose level of respect has gone up tenfold.

Man, I love @SportsSturm but that entire Balogun segment being political was just a false start from the beginning. To not be able to offer, that the decision was made by FIFA and there was a call from the President, seems to be a one way road. Although I agree, wish FIFA upheld

@SportsSturm In my opinion, the segment came off as FIFA made the decision solely due to a phone call. Watching the White House stmt, that wasn’t my understanding. I feel FIFA acted alone, if that’s my assumption it’s no diff than those that feel the President strong armed them. No one knows

@geoffjBYU Maybe this helps, but let’s use teacher as example. If found guilty of awful crime against a child, then fired & the state takes their certificate…yet they find judge to say no it’s ok, he’s addicted. You ok with said teacher in class with your daughter? Right is always right

Some of this Sorsby conversation confuses me. Parts I understand: 1. Sorsby is clearly severely addicted to gambling. I get how that should be against NCAA rules and should result in him being banned. 2. A federal judge ruled that the NCAA can't ban him. The NCAA is appealing. 3. The NCAA (and most people) fear a slippery slope problem if athletes were allowed to bet on games. Leads to all sort of potential tampering and game throwing problems. Parts I don't understand: 1. I don't get why Sorsby (the addict who needs help) is a villain here. He simply asked if he could play still and a judge said yes. 2. I don't get how TTU is a villain here. They haven't played him yet and if it ends up being legal (which I doubt it will) why would they not stand by their guy? I'm pretty confident the ruling will be overturned. I think the slippery slope argument has merit and the NCAA should be able to suspend and ban athletes who bet on games. It just seems like people are losing the plot a bit with this if they want to blame TTU here.

Our Poll Question of the Day is this: If Utah and Texas Tech played tomorrow in football and Brendan Sorsby started at QB for the Red Raiders, would you root for Utah or Texas Tech?

A full list of NCAA schools that finished in the national top 16 this past calendar sports year in: • Football • Men’s Basketball • Women’s Basketball • Baseball • Softball Texas. That’s the list. And if you expand it to include women’s volleyball, men’s golf, women’s golf, men’s swimming & diving, women’s swimming & diving, men’s and women’s tennis, beach volleyball, women’s rowing, and women’s track & field, Texas finished in the top 16 nationally in 15 of its 17 varsity sports. @BenRogers How you think the 18 other franchises with longer Super Bowl drought than Dallas feel? Acting like this is a single issue with single team is what makes no sense. Must be 18 other Jerry’s out there too. Amazing, thanks for bringing us to this revelation

The Cowboys haven’t been to the NFC Championship game in 29 years and 8 months… the fanbase is too numb to riot. They’re just going to keep snorting false hope and buying Zeke jerseys. We’re all merely extras in Jerry’s Groundhog Day.

@SportsSturm Interesting the consistent talking point is surrounding ink to paper. Deals are agreed upon all the time, and then details worked out on paper. I feel the reason JJ was blindsided is MP agreed to price. The agent changed his mind. He wished he had honored the deal they agreed to

He definitely wants "the way things used to be" to apply here. This will score well amongst the "back in my day" crowd, but won't matter in the "this is 2025, buddy" people.
Ari Meirov@MySportsUpdate

#Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was asked by @SlaterNFL how he could have a deal with Micah Parsons without anything in writing: “I bought the Cowboys with a handshake. It took about 30 seconds. I gave the number, shook hands, the details we worked out later.”

@disabledbroth @pjcowboyp1 I have read that nowhere The report is that once Micah said he and his agent didn’t agree with that total Things turned very sour Jerry thought their discussion was a verbal deal

@drano21 @pjcowboyp1 No, Jerry thought that Micah would sign the contract, that would benefit him. Of course, the agent wanted Parsons to take more money which is why Jerry tried to get Parsons to sign without his agent.

If you wanted to trade Micah Parsons, the best time to do that was March. They is zero path to do that quietly now and you have lost leverage (again).
