In my recent speech at @MMAPenangBranch , I shared a personal reflection; my father was recently admitted to Hospital Bukit Mertajam, the same hospital where I was born. For 136 years, HBM has served not only Penang, but also communities like Kulim and Padang Serai, where I grew up. Despite limited resources and a very old, congested building, the hospital remains clean, organised, and deeply compassionate ; a testament to its people. This is the DNA of our public healthcare system; professionals who give their best to the sick, quietly, despite all odds. Credit to the hospital and state leadership @FazilahAllaudin for holding the line with dignity. Digitalisation must anchor this transformation , from administrative processes to professional governance. As we review the Medical Act, introducing e-voting for MMC elections would be a timely and progressive step to enhance participation across the medical fraternity.

Salam 🇲🇾 MADANI ❤️ ​ I take note of the concerns raised by our medical fraternity regarding the issuance of the Annual Practising Certificates (APC) for 2026 & acknowledged the statement issued by the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) today. ​Therefore, to ensure certainty & continuity, I want to reiterate the legal standing for all affected practitioners: ​📍 Guaranteed Legal Continuity: For complete applications submitted on or before 31st Dec 2025, the APC is effective from 1st Jan 2026. The effective date is NOT dependent on the date of approval or issuance. Your indemnity & legal status remain intact. ​Moving forward, my office has started to engage with the @MY_MedCouncil to implement a Systemic Remedial Plan: ​📍 Audit & Accountability: Internal audit shall be conducted. MMC will submit a detailed report outlining the root causes, mitigation measures & a concrete timeline for full resolution. ​📍 Digital Overhaul: We recognize the urgent need to upgrade the legacy "MeRITS" system. We are committed to transitioning towards a more robust, automated & rule-based digital workflow with upgraded capacity. 📍Policy Reform: As part of a phased reform approach, the impact of the digital overhaul will be assessed before considering further policy measures, including a review of the Medical Act and the introduction of Multi-Year Practising Certificates if required. ​ We are committed to resolving this matter constructively. The MMA has warned against the misuse of the "Dr" title by unregistered individuals, which may mislead the public into believing they are licensed doctors. President Dr Thirunavukarasu Rajoo added that only those registered with the MMC should act in a medical capacity, especially when publicly sharing health information. 🧵1

Orthopedic surgeon based in Sandakan, he has been tireless in standing up for the profession; especially public sector doctors and those lower in rank who may fear speaking up.
