@AnimaCattolica @BreeSolstad She doesn’t want to kneel because she’s an unrepentant sinner. Blind obedience is the only way. No independent thought. Total slavery

@BreeSolstad How sad is it that man has knelt before Kings on earth, but Christs own followers don’t want to kneel for him

@BreeSolstad Be obedient to the Church is a horrible post? Perhaps ask a question instead of assume and be charitable first. See ccc 2478 about rash judgement. All Catholics are called to obedience to the Church, clergy, religious and laity.

I love Diana, but this is a terrible tweet. The Church literally says we can receive the Eucharist kneeling on the tongue. Communion in the hand was an indult, not a law. This has absolutely nothing to do with obedience to the Church. This is just a bad Bishop behaving badly.
Diana Henry@dianahenry

Be obedient to the Church. 🙏🏻

Trump is using the power of the US government to intimidate individual companies, universities, and citizens. Intimidation and a disregard for due process are grave dangers to our democracy and its institutions. This puts sectors of society into a collective action problem where each organization calculates that it's better (in the short run) to submit to the intimidation. This creates a trap that will continue, unless more people and organizations in each sector of civil society stand up to say no. We won't always agree with the people and organizations we stand up for. But as a social psychologist who studies collective action problems, I believe it's important that we laud those doing the brave thing, which makes it easier for others to also be brave. So, bravo Harvard. Bravo to the law firms that are saying no to intimidation. And thank you David Brooks: nytimes.com/2025/04/17/opi…

@BardotTiller @TaliaferroJohn0 @JonHaidt Biden didn’t pass a DEI law—he used the purse strings. EO 13985 made agencies bake equity into grants; Ed Dept gives bonus pts for DEI, NIH/NSF demand diversity plans, OCR ties aid to compliance. Skip DEI, lose billions. Mandate by checkbook.

@dravencast @TaliaferroJohn0 @JonHaidt He in no way made receipt of federal funds contingent upon a university agreeing to place one of its departments into receivership until the ideology of its faculty was "balanced." Show me the news article or press release saying Biden did that.

@BardotTiller @TaliaferroJohn0 @JonHaidt What are you talking about, under Biden, federal funding for grants and education was contingent on implementing DEI. He literally did the exact opposite. Don’t play with fire if you don’t want to get burned.

@dravencast @TaliaferroJohn0 @JonHaidt There are literally millions of posts from Jon & thousands of others criticizing DEI and the Biden administration for encouraging it. Also, if you think the two are equivalent, show me the time Biden asked to put entire departments into receivership because it didn't want to DEI?

@TaliaferroJohn0 @JonHaidt Of course not. That’s the point everyone is missing. Biden admin used the state to force DEI. Suddenly people get upset when Trump does the opposite.

@JonHaidt They didn’t say “no” to intimidation when the Biden admin forced DEI down their throats

I have been critical of elite universities for their lack of viewpoint diversity and have been working to improve them since 2014, out of love for the academy. Universities have largely failed to reform on their own. Outside pressure is needed, and I agree with some of the demands made. But what the Trump administration has demanded of Harvard sets a precedent for a degree of government control that is incompatible with free inquiry and free expression. And if @TheFIREorg says that the approach is unlawful and lacking due process, that’s good enough for me: thefire.org/news/faq-respo… I have long stood up against intimidation when it came from the left on campus and it created a climate of fear. I oppose it as well when it comes from the right, off-campus, and creates a new climate of fear. I want universities to have vibrant cultures where nobody is afraid to speak up.
