@DataRepublican @ConceptualJames That’s right. If you vote in a void, you vote blue to maximize your child’s chance of survival, even sacrificing your own. If you can press your child’s button, you press it (and yours) red.

@ConceptualJames Nah, I think the right way to reframe the button debate is to imagine if you had to press it for your child. You’re a straight-up psychopath if you press the blue button.

I completely understand the argument about the blue button (some innocent people will make mistakes innocently), and yet hearing most of the arguments the blue-button people make makes me want to play the red button like a bongo drum.

If you use any version of FSD (Supervised) V14, what is the most common reason you disengage (even if it’s rare)?

@JustinMacmahan This is correct. It was an interesting online philosophical exercise, but in practice, especially if given the opportunity to counsel the people you love the most about the need to push red, then almost everyone would end up pushing red.

It’s crazy how many people believe this 54% vote would hold up in real life. We clearly learned nothing from the last election. Nobody voting red in the poll would defect to the altruistic choice, but many blue voters will defect to red with their life at stake. Blue would lose
Tim Urban@waitbutwhy

Everyone in the world has to take a private vote by pressing a red or blue button. If more than 50% of people press the blue button, everyone survives. If less than 50% of people press the blue button, only people who pressed the red button survive. Which button would you press?

@IterIntellectus Surviving after pressing red (if <50% press blue), means you contributed to killing half of all humans on earth. Some people would rather die than kill half of humanity (at least in this theoretical poll).

@DKThomp And yet, ironically, the only character who manages to not be a train wreck is the redneck Fuckleberry. Maybe, and hear me out here, being obsessed with your own competence instead of being a chill normal dude is counterproductive to being a functional human.

@mattyglesias @Rory_Johnston It took several weeks for global oil production and transportation to change gears to U.S., Saudi/Qatari pipelines, etc. Now that they’ve done so, we have the leverage to implement the blockade.

Lotta people seem to think the US blockade is a strategic masterstroke sure to end the war. Which begs the question: why wait 6 weeks to impose one?

@luismbat @grok What is the risk of meteors to a potential lunar base? How often do tiny meteors hit the moon and how much risk to they present to future moon installations?

In 2029, Apophis, a ~370m asteroid, will pass just ~31,000 km from Earth. That’s ~1/10 the distance to the Moon. Inside the orbit of geostationary satellites. Visible to the naked eye. Impact risk this time is low, but the flyby could shift its future trajectory. A direct hit would mean a ~1 km crater and regional devastation. That’s why becoming multiplanetary matters.

The main driver of the global transition to EVs is not environmentalism. It is fuel costs. EVs are cheaper, hence they will rule. In rich countries, fuel costs are a tiny part of people's income. We can afford driving a combustion engine. In poorer countries, many just can't.
LeRaffl@leRaffl

I have never seen a transition to BEV close to this fast. Indonesia is on an entirely different level. Every time I add more recent data I think to myself "this can't go on this month, can it?", but it does go on. Indonesia has ~600k registrations per year, so they are even a decent size.

ER doc here Season one was accurate and excellent But the interactions with law enforcement in season two are just inaccurate 99.99% of the time, officers are patient when awaiting care (if they are the patient), and they have *never* been abusive towards staff or patients
Lucas Sanders 👊🏽🔥🇺🇸@LucasSa56947288

I see MAGA folks are upset at HBO and threatening to boycott it because, the show "The Pitt" portrayed a very realistic scene Thursday night of ICE Nazis Agents kidnapping a patient in the ER and arresting a doctor saying the show is demonized ICE agents

This is an interesting example of "how the political left do." This is a tragic case, sure. But, in the context of (1) an almost totally and rather gloriously victorious war against (2) an Ayatollah-led state that just butchered 30,000-60,000 people while raping a bunch of young female fighters, probably 50-60% of all MSM coverage I have seen has focused on this one - prrrrobable - US mistake. That is clearly not how a sane, unbiased person would cover this conflict. But, it IS how fairly mainstream American sources ("A People's History," etc) cover ALL of our history. And, that is important to remember.

An airstrike which struck a school in Iran, killing 175 people, was likely carried out by the U.S., according to Reuters and NYT. If confirmed, it would be one of the worst cases of civilian casualties in a U.S. airstrike in decades. The school was next to an IRGC base.

In northern New Hampshire, there is drive known as “Moose Alley” it's a renowned 12-mile stretch of U.S. Route 3 in Pittsburg New Hampshire, extending north toward the Canadian border, famous for high concentrations of moose. It is considered one of the best places in the country to view moose, particularly during dawn and dusk in the spring, summer, and fall.
