Dear Ghanaians, Some Medical doctors own private laboratories. Most gain commissions of between 30% to 50% on every laboratory test taken outside the hospital laboratories to private ones.This is the only reason why they want to work in and control public laboratories

If given the chance to support you, I'll do it and do it again a thousand folds. I have been pained by this loss not only because I'm unemployed and had hopes in your job creation track record but also because of my marginalized beloved North. I believe you saw the reality when you were campaigning across Northern Ghana 😭😭😭. For now, this is the end of the road for me and the NPP 😢

I need some education. I know that to work in the lab you’re required to be under Allied Health Professions Council (AHPC). At the 37MH we don’t have laboratory physicians, only lab doctors like myself, so I’m trying to understand this: If by law you can’t work in the lab without an AHPC pin, how are lab physicians operating? Are they also forfeiting their MDC accreditation in order to be under AHPC? Is this just a Korle Bu thing or places like KATH also run like this? Are they exempt, or are we ignoring the licensing requirements? I need some clarification.

Where I practice (37MH), “pathologist” is often associated more with autopsies and the morgue, just to be clear on context. I understand your point about clinical pathologists, no disagreement there. But saying all medical laboratories should be headed by pathologists is exactly where the concern lies. Lab medicine is not only clinical interpretation. It’s also technical, analytical and operational work that MLS professionals are specifically trained for and have built careers around. So why should leadership automatically default to one profession? That’s the bone of contention.
