📰 The @nytimes celebrates life & work Dr Bartlett: Robert H. Bartlett, father of innovative life-support system, dies at 86. He developed #ECMO, a treatment that can sustain patients whose hearts and lungs are failing - for days or weeks or longer. 🖇️ bit.ly/4qKFt3b

The NIH grant that supported 38 years of training the best pediatrician-scientists in the country (I’m a proud former recipient) was cancelled. It was just approved for a 5 year renewal. The @PSDP_AMSPDC is vital to our understanding of childhood diseases and making new therapies

(5/x) Another important take away from the research by @FTeranMD et al. is that the debate between the cardiac pump theory and thoracic pump theory of CPR has been resolved. The thoracic pump theory states that cardiac output during CPR is primarily generated from changes in intrathoracic pressure 🫁 The cardiac pump theory states that blood ejection is due to direct compression of the LV 🫀 While both might be at play somewhat, I think the cardiac pump is the primary mechanism given multiple studies showing CPR over the LVOT/Aorta is associated with lower rates of ROSC 🫀

#CPR is the cornerstone of survival for cardiac arrest, yet one crucial aspect of CPR quality is never discussed 🫀 Here's why we need to rethink a one-size fits all approach to CPR and why "push hard and fast with full recoil" isn't good enough in 2024. A 🧵 #foamed #medtwitter

Children in high-risk neighborhoods are almost 50% less likely to survive with a good neurologic outcome after cardiac arrest. We present this devastating data as an oral presentation tomorrow at #AHA23. Come join me for the discussion. We must do more.
AHA CPR & First Aid@HeartCPR

Preliminary research to be presented at #AHA23 uncovers racial, ethnic, and/or neighborhood disparities in cardiac arrest survival and recovery rates among children. Click for the news release: spr.ly/6018utYmn
