Lower socioeconomic status is associated with lower rates of survival after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). Across 744,164 OHCA cases, we report lower rates of witnessed arrests in ZIP Codes where >10% below poverty line. Out now: sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

@joshkimbre Next step: now that we have a trial showing MIH visits do not significantly increase risk of readmissions, let's see how the patients felt? Wonder if patients prefer the convenience of in-home visits.

many moons ago, this was a debate in the acls guidelines & whoever reviewed at the time came out with warning against shocking asystole if my understanding is correct. I think the original assessment was based on observational data. In the era of ECHO/ultrasound, can now see cases of apparent asystole that are actually v-fib even if rare so would seem to make sense to reconsider that concept - I am curious if there has been anything published on rate of unrecognized vfib in asystole when using ECHO? I think that would be the data necessary to push the concept forward for guidelines. And, agree, I do not see much downside of a shock - I have heard the counterargument "takes away from other things" though there is not a lot to do in refractory "apparent" asystole.

A hypothetical stance on cardiac arrest: Some apparent asystole is actually fine V-fib. There is therefore potential benefit, and no real harm, to routinely, empirically shocking asystole, just in case. Argue for/against? #medtwitter

159 seconds. That's the average time savings attributable to lights and siren use by ambulance. @CoffeeandData and I conducted a scoping review of 9 studies that directly compared drive time with lights/siren vs. no lights/siren across the same route. emerald.com/insight/conten…
